Job Description

WKBN 27 First News in Youngstown, Ohio is looking for Digital and MultiMedia Sports Reporter to join the most experienced sports department, and top-rated digital team in the Youngstown market.

With more than 50 years of combined experience, Sports Team 27 remains focused on bringing our audience compelling stories from a passionate sports town.
Our 'digital first' approach prioritizes online video content and in-depth storytelling with our online and television platforms.

The successful candidate will have a track record of working efficiently, multi-tasking and troubleshooting in order to successfully meet challenging deadlines. You will excel at enterprising story ideas and bring high professional ethics and personal integrity to the position.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Receive and execute assignments under deadline.

Develop local relationships and generate story ideas that appeal to a wide audience.

Adhere to our 'digital first' philosophy, where sports content is prioritized on our online platforms.

Focus on unique and compelling sports stories rather than game highlights.

Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.
Organize material and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.

Shoot and edit video to illustrate stories for all multimedia platforms including television and digital.

Appear in television news segments in-studio when applicable or live from the field.

Produce, write, and anchor sports segments for our late local newscasts.

Use social media to give updates and direct the audience to our television and digital platforms.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Solid vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation.

Strong reporting skills.

Knowledge and demonstration of the sports landscape.

Understand importance of social media.

Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and organizational skills.

Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems and non-linear editing

Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.

Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.

Proficient at posting content to various websites and multimedia.

Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.

Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Communication/Journalism or related degree required.

Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

High stress environment with deadline pressures.

Some travel will be required.

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Position requires work on weekends and holidays.
