Job Summary/Description:

WECT-TV in Wilmington, North Carolina seeks an experienced Investigative Reporter/MMJ to join our award-winning news team. The successful candidate will research, develop, write and present investigative news stories on a long and short-term basis, as well as contribute research and analysis on major breaking news events. The reporter will work with the special projects team as well as station management and legal department to conceptualize and produce content. Experience doing computer-assisted reporting research and database analysis is a plus.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not limited to) the following:
• The successful candidate will research, develop, write and present investigative news stories on a long and short-term basis, as well as contribute research and analysis on major breaking news events
• The reporter will work with the special projects team as well as station management and legal department to conceptualize and produce content
• Develop and maintain sources that will generate exclusive reports
• Our ideal candidate will break stories, expose wrongdoing, including in local and state governments, and use data to analyze trends across a wide spectrum of topics
• The candidate would also be part of big-story and major breaking news coverage
• Enterprise long and short-term investigative stories across all of WECT's on-air and digital platforms
• Work effectively with the News Director, Assistant News Director and the marketing department
• Cover big stories and major breaking news when needed

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Minimum of two years' experience working as an investigative reporter or three years as a General Assignment Reporter with a demonstrated history of turning investigative stories
• Proven investigative skills, including developing sources and accessing open records
• Strong storytelling, writing, and on-air abilities
• Knowledge and effective use of broadcast, digital, and social media tools
• Understanding of computer-assisted reporting and working with database and spreadsheet programs
• Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred
