WDAM is the #1 station in the Hattiesburg-Laurel DMA. We are dominant on broadcast and digital, and produce news on WDAM NBC and WDAM ABC. Hattiesburg-Laurel is market 167, and we reach viewers in eight counties (Covington, Forrest, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Marion, Perry, and Wayne). Job Summary/Description:
WDAM is looking for the right meteorologist and weather storyteller to join our award-winning news and weather team. The winning candidate will be self-motivated, committed to quality, and must have a passion for both weather and news information. Must be capable of producing and presenting an engaging forecast and will be relied upon to shoot, write, edit, and present news at certain times during a week. The ideal candidate will have a comfortable on-air appearance and be able to break down complex weather situations into easy-to-understand broadcasts and online weathercasts. This person will also provide written stories and multimedia weather content for digital platforms.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Primary role; Producing and presenting clear, accurate, and engaging forecasts at least two days per week. Newscasts depend on experience level.
- Updating the station's digital platforms with live and written content
- Available 24/7 during severe weather events
- Filling in for other meteorologists for morning and evening newscasts.
-Live reports from the field during severe weather coverage
-Live reports from the field for community events and stories
Storytelling duties include -
• Setting up stories and interviews
• Writing compelling stories for on-air and online
• Shooting and editing video
• Live shots with Live U Technology
Qualifications/Requirements:
• We prefer a candidate with a four-year degree in meteorology
• Experience with WSI weather technology is a plus
• On-air presenting experience
• Understanding of principal journalistic ethics
• Ability to carry and utilize broadcast camera equipment in the field (25 lbs.)
• Valid driver's license and excellent driving record
