Job Summary/Description:
WCAX-TV is looking for an anchor for our weekday 4:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. newscasts. We are seeking an experienced journalist with dynamic storytelling skills, polished on-air delivery, and the ability to connect with viewers. A successful candidate will be a newsroom leader able to assist producers in stacking rundowns and writing scripts, and also possess strong digital skills to help deliver our news content via livestream and social media. Candidates should be prepared to do occasional field reporting and report or anchor live in the field.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Present daily newscasts for live broadcast in an engaging and professional manner
- Conduct live interviews
- Anchor live events from our streaming desk
- Present news stories in a fair, unbiased manner, ensuring the information is accurate and of interest to viewers
- Use editorial judgment to help determine the content of the newscasts
- Work with producers and teams to create unique, fast-paced newscasts
- Write for the web and post daily on digital platforms, including social media
- Develop story ideas to assist news-gathering efforts
- Develop contacts and sources in the community
- Work well with others in a team atmosphere
- Participate in community events and make public appearances on behalf of the station as assigned
- Always present a professional image as a representative of WCAX-TV
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Two years of experience in a commercial newsroom preferred, including regular anchoring experience
- BS/BA in journalism or communications preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Computer literacy, including newsroom computer systems
- Schedule flexibility
