The Job

Avalanche, a division of WB Games Inc., seeks a Technical Character Artist to join the team working on the upcoming game, Hogwarts Legacy, a new open world, action RPG set in the Wizarding World.

This person will work closely with the Lead Character Artist along with the Art Director to create and maintain the highest quality assets for the game and ensure that the aesthetic goals are met.

The Daily
• Assist with the optimization and maintain technical checklist of main characters
• Assist with the transition of characters to the Unreal character pipeline
• Capturing video within the game, solve bugs and provide technical support between Maya and Unreal
• Assist with head system, morph targets, rigging and testing models in Maya
• Bug fixing, ensure that clothing pieces pass a Volume Checklist
• Ensure that the high-quality bar established by the Art Director and Lead Artist is maintained by themselves and their team
• Continue research and development into past practices and industry innovation and share acquired knowledge with the character team

The Essentials
• Excellent fundamental art skills as well as critique skills and an eye for detail
• Must be proficient in Unreal, Maya, Zbrush, Adobe Software, Substance Painter or Designer
• Basic understanding of textures, regions, masks and how to make tile-able textures
• Understanding of Shaders and Materials and creating Materials in Substance Designer
• Demonstrated understanding of textures and Physically based materials for Unreal Engine
• Understanding of Optimization in meshes as well as textures and rigging
• Visual and technical understanding in sculpting, 3D modeling and surfaces (both high & low resolution game assets). Can provide examples of high-resolution modeling, both organic and hard surface
• Understanding of 3D pipeline and Mel scripts
• Knowledge of human and animal anatomy
• Strong interest in video games
• Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills
• Task driven, self motivated, reliable and proactive; ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Team player with strong leadership and interpersonal skills
