The Position:
WBG SD is looking for an Environment Artist to work with the lead environment artist, creative director, engineering, design, and art teams to bring their worlds to life. Leverage your technical expertise and passion for high quality art in this exciting ground floor opportunity.
• Create high quality 3D environment assets including props, vegetation, structures and more that match the game's aesthetic
• Create tileable textures for use across a wide range of assets
• Ensure that assets meet technical and performance requirements while maintaining visual excellence
• Populate a world with assets to convey a believable sense of place and atmosphere
• Light environments using Unreal Engine 5's lightmass system
• Work closely with vision holders to understand and execute the artistic vision for the game
• Execute on pre-defined or self-started initiatives from ideation to completion
• Actively share knowledge within area of expertise and influence related disciplines
• Serve as an active participant in team art discussions, critiques and reviews
Requirements:
• Minimum 3+ years of experience as an environment artist in game development
• Must have a portfolio that shows not only artistic skill but also the ability to follow technical guidelines like proper UVs, appropriate polygonal density, and textures that are consistent with a Physically Based Rendering Engine such as Unreal
• Relevant 2D and 3D experience – Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Maya, ZBrush, Photoshop, etc.
• Experience creating high polygon meshes whose detail is then baked down to final lower polygonal in-game meshes
• Experience implementing assets in game engines (Unreal a plus)
• Knowledge of optimization techniques for real time rendering including LODs, reducing draw calls, minimizing overdraw, and efficient use of texture memory
• Strong understanding of composition, materials, color, and lighting
• Must have portfolio link on resume
