Job Description

WATE-TV 6 On Your Side, the ABC Affiliate in Knoxville, Tennessee is looking for a Sports Anchor/Reporter/MMJ to anchor sports on weekends and report during the week. We are looking for a seasoned sports journalist who comes to the table on day one with unique ideas for our Orange and White Nation coverage. You should be a self-starter with strong writing and editing skills. You should be extremely knowledgeable about game coverage and be a team player. Good communication skills are also a must.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute enterprise content on a consistent basis

Manage high school sports coverage

Assist sports director in preparation for Tennessee athletics coverage

Work with sports director in covering Tennessee athletics

Writes stories for the web and update social media

Build and maintain sources with Knoxville area professional, college and high school teams

Write and produce sportscasts; fill-in anchor sports segments during newscasts

Work with sports team to build a coverage plan and produce sports specials

Work collaboratively with everyone in the sports department and newsroom

Requirements

At least two years' on-air experience

Shoot, write and edit packages and vosots

Exceptional live skills in the field and studio

Adobe Premiere editing and video camera/photography skills

Build strong relationships with local athletes and coaches;

Travel

Ability to carry 25-30 pounds of equipment

Knowledge of newsgathering/First Amendment law and media ethics

Valid Driver's License and clean driving record

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Sports Reporter must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions and interviews with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Sports Anchor Reporter must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
