The Role
The SVP of Global Data Platform & Services will be based in San Francisco and report to EVP of Engineering. In this role, you will be responsible for defining the vision, strategy, architecture and execution of WBD's consumer data platform, to manage all of WBD's data across streaming, enterprise and consumer needs. Data is the foundation for delivering on WBD's ambitions in the consumer streaming space. A scalable, reliant and performant data platform, that allows for every team across the company to self-serve meet their data, analytics and insights needs, while having the needed governance, trust, privacy and safety models, is a strategic focus for the company's leadership. As the global leader for data platform, you will also be responsible for evolving the 250+ organization and developing the strong talent needed to execute on this vision.
San Francisco WBD is growing into a center of excellence around machine learning, core infrastructure and big data for WBD, and you will be helping shape the culture and evolution of the site.
Responsibilities
• Oversee our global DTC Data efforts, ensuring that we have the data governance, data platform, tooling and dashboards, reporting and visualization capabilities necessary to support the business
• Develop and own the DTC Data strategy, with the primary goal of ensuring that WBD's data infrastructure can support the growth of WBD streaming, digital and linear businesses.
• Partner with business stakeholders across strategy, marketing, finance, accounting, advertising and more, to scope and build out the necessary data requirements and infrastructure to deliver on the business needs
• Work closely with the engineering and product organization, to deliver the data platform that meets our technology and product needs
• Implement a single data governance framework that supports the collective needs of the global Discovery DTC organization
• Harmonize across the multiple data platform efforts across the company that have come together in this organization, to build the next-generation shared data platform, tools & services.
• Work with DTC functional leaders to understand data requirements and build a data platform and identify reporting and self-service tools that support these needs
• Grow our internal experimentation, machine learning, and data science capabilities to support business growth
• Leverage expertise around data to inform insights and provide direction on strategic business decisions for all areas across the various WBD functions
• Lead a team who translate data from multiple sources, identifies opportunities, and provides actionable insights to guide strategic decisions across key WBD functions
• Partner with business, product, content, and marketing leaders to understand critical needs, use cases and requirements and deliver data solutions and insights to enhance and accelerate customer experience
• Lead the innovation and thought leadership in how we leverage data-driven algorithms and techniques to improve the customer experience
• Lead team to build standard reports, centralize reports, dashboards and insights
• Manage KPIs for function
• Drive a culture of objective, data-driven decision making across DTC
• Increase operational efficiency to enable data usability, availability, and efficiency
• Ensure the successful delivery of solutions in an agile and timely manner, within budget
• Be a great leader of people who empowers and inspires; a consensus builder; and able to work across the business seamlessly to achieve shared business goals
Skills & Requirements
• Minimum - Masters in Computer Science and Engineering or equivalent; 15+ years of industry experience; 10+ years of engineering leadership & management experience leading orgs (in size of 100+)
• Experience in building large-scale data platforms, distributed systems, high performance scalable real-time processing architecture, analytics infrastructure, visualizations, data platforms, advanced analytics management and implementation
• Experience with delivering global programs in the following areas: Integrated Data, Advanced Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotic Processing Automation, Internet of Things (IoT), and Web Solutions
• Experience in a start-up or launch of network or direct to consumer offering preferred
• Exceptional track record of senior management-level experience in digital and/or television/entertainment
• Advanced knowledge and experience with best in class data strategy design to advise and execute advances, innovative digital strategies
• Results-oriented leader with a proven track record of leading a data transformation initiative
• Excellent stakeholder management in a global, highly matrixed environment
• Ability to operate in a fast-moving environment and deal with the complexity of multiple priorities and stakeholders
• Outstanding strategic business, interpersonal, project management, and organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills needed, with the ability to balance technical and product knowledge to collaborate, negotiate and influence effectively with all stakeholders
• Understand business strategy and impact when evaluating and implementing data solutions
• Experience growing and scaling a global, multi-disciplined data organization and engaging internal partners across the globe
• Strong leadership and motivational skills, with proven track record of building, leading and growing teams to meet or exceed targets
