The Job

This experienced editor is a best-in-class shaper and sharpener of stories and ideas. This is a role for a seasoned people manager who can coach, inspire, nurture and grow hungry, high-performing writers. This person has a knack for identifying distinctive angles on the most important domestic stories and helping writers elevate their work from good to great. The ideal candidate thrives on the breakneck pace of deadline journalism and has top-notch news judgement. This person is a strong collaborator who can help shape CNN Digital's National report and work across teams to occasionally oversee daily coverage.

This is an evening role, with a schedule that may include Saturdays or Sundays.

The Daily
• Know the network's plans and priorities and approve and assign distinctive stories, editing them with an eye toward the sharpest framing
• Help writers craft the best-told versions of the most compelling people-centered stories -timely work that reflects CNN's audiences
• Maintain seamless communication with every part of CNN – from the various digital units to show teams – for the most efficient collaboration, with minimal duplication.
• Have experience managing writers or editors in a fast-changing environment, or experience managing editorial projects
• Coordinate coverage and assignments during breaking-news situations
• Edit breaking news and features from National Digital and other journalists from throughout the organization
• Edit in formats that go beyond the traditional article - including visual projects; explanatory work that helps audiences understand the news; and real-time breaking news posts
• Serve as a second set of eyes on alerts or on key pieces that need a good comb-through and/or creative punch
• Write as needed - your byline may occasionally be seen solo or as a contributing writer
• Assist with the live stories that are an essential part of our breaking news coverage
• And last but never least: Editors are often the final step before a story goes to CNN's programming team to get distributed to millions of people worldwide; all news editors work intently to make sure our stories are accurate and fair so that we continue to grow the trust between CNN and our audiences

The Essentials
• 8+ or more years of digital editorial experience, including 4 years' experience managing people and/or projects.
• Experience helping writers frame their stories for a national audience.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Strong collaborative and leadership skills.
• Experience editing fast-moving breaking news.
• A clear understanding of style and grammar.
• Deep knowledge about digital storytelling in numerous forms, on multiple platforms.
• College degree or equivalent.
