The Job

Monolith Productions, the award-winning AAA studio who brought you F.E.A.R. and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, seeks a Design Manager to maximize the communication, collaboration, and growth of the studio's design team. They work closely with all designers to facilitate their best work and remove development obstacles. They break down the barriers between disciplines and forge relationships to ensure honest teamwork can occur. The Design Manager will cultivate a diverse and talented design team by hiring, mentoring, empowering, and challenging designers of all levels and disciplines. They identify areas for skill development within the team and execute on that growth. They lead and mediate design discussions to reconcile interpersonal and departmental conflicts while helping resolve competing priorities. The Design Manager will work closely with the Design Director, Lead Designers, and Production to ensure scheduling and task prioritization flows smoothly and takes full advantage of the available time and resources. They recommend improvements to design pipelines and workflows and they challenge the status quo.

The Daily
• Manage the design team, including both direct management of Lead Designers as well as hiring, mentoring, and advocating for designers of all levels.
• Serve as the primary point of contact between production and design. Help producers and designers resolve scheduling and prioritization conflicts.
• Resolve conflict (both interpersonal and creative) with tact and empathy.

The Essentials
• Game design/production experience.
• Lead/management experience.
• Contributed to a shipped title, preferred being a AAA title.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
• Comprehensive knowledge of game design principles, the game industry, and its products.
• Fluency in all aspects of game design and production.
• Strong mentorship and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work effectively with people of a wide array of personalities and backgrounds.
• Advanced expertise with appropriate tools, such as MS Office, Confluence, Jira, etc.
