The Job

The Technical Operations Manager - Dailies will be managing data and content from camera across multiple platforms, framerates, aspect ratios, formats, codec's and equipment configurations and supervises the flow of content and data in, out and throughout the dailies processing operation. The candidate should have extensive experience working at a similar level within a large facility architecting digital workflows and delivering content of a comparable standard and profile for both film and television. The Dailies Technical Operations Manager will supervise a 24-hour team of operators both in the data lab and on set and so previous management experience in a technical dailies' environment is essential.

The Daily
• Create bespoke, robust workflows that deliver at the highest level whether in the studio or on location, from processing to scanning and dailies creation of all formats.
• Advise productions on hybrid solutions, bringing together the best of both film and digital workflows where required.
• Support every aspect of each production's workflow from initial planning, photography, data management, quality control, and the processing of rushes right through to editorial and archive.
• Manage data efficiently throughout production so that any conform or VFX shots can be pulled quickly when required.
• Creating pipelines and workflow documentation in line with current technical specifications. E.g. SMPTE, DPP, Netflix, Amazon, all broadcasters and studio and production technical specifications.
• Managing a team of dailies operators, setting shifts and distributing work amongst the team, ensuring an efficient data management and the technical skills and creative sensibilities to be indispensable to the camera department on set.
• Review production, admin and digital workflows, procedures and pipelines in line with industry standard requirements and specifications and ensures adherence.
• Interact directly with client facing WBDLL personnel to establish scope of data work required and to architect an appropriate workflow for each production.
• Maintain department scheduling of facilities and personnel to ensure seamless coverage.
• Maintain current workflows, while simultaneously working on throughput efficiencies and improvements.
• Enforce retention policies; monitor storage volumes to prolong disk health.
• Develop standards, systems and best practices for content creation, distribution, maintenance, content retrieval and content repurposing, including the real-time implementation of content strategies.
• Operation of professional grade testing equipment including, software, players, PC's, video switchers, monitors, test scopes and audio equipment.
• Accurate and methodical testing that incorporates a focused attention on video, audio and subtitle to ensure impairment-free and artefact-free assets.

The Essentials
• Expert knowledge of camera's, codecs, formats, aspect ratios, frame rates and final delivery elements to ensure balanced workflow efficient decisions are made on every production.
• Understanding of all delivery formats, post-production process & technical requirements for international delivery is essential.
• Data integrity and standards compliance checks using in-house and third-party tools.
• Knowledge of capture devices and other competitors service provisions and ensure our service offering is leading the industry.
• Full understanding of tapeless workflows.
• Must have experience with EDL's, OMF/AAF's, various quicktime codecs, etc.
• Knowledge of digitising, transcoding, logging, syncing and grouping.
• Proven experience of managing a dailies department.
• High level use of Baselight, Flame, Adobe Creative Cloud, AVID, Protools, Clipster, Transkoder and various standard post-production systems and platforms.
• Exposure to processes and etiquette around high end episodic television drama and studio feature films.
• Motivated to research and troubleshoot, providing opinions based on fact with excellent level of attention to detail.
