Our Team
The Media Supply Chain Engineering team builds the applications and services that power Warner Bros Discovery's content supply chain. Our applications cover the entire breadth of the media supply chain, from idea to distribution. We have a robust global community of thousands of internal Warner Bros Discovery users who rely on our apps every day to get television produced, on the air, and onto Max.
The Role
The Video Engineer I (VEI) is part of Warner Bros Discovery's Media Supply Chain Technology group.
A Video Engineer's primary responsibilities include research, design, and implementation of complex media workflows enabling WBD's Content Supply Chain and delivery of the best video quality to our customers and viewers. The VE discipline covers a wide range of specialties within media engineering including compression, quality analysis, post workflows, file-based workflows, media analysis, production workflows, production tools, and others. Video Engineers can be specialists or generalists. They can ''own'' operational systems or serve as consultants, bringing their expertise to software development teams that need their specialized knowledge. A VE must be knowledgeable about a wide range of media formats, standards, and tools. The VE may engage with stakeholders to gather project requirements and communicate results. A VE may prepare documentation related to project planning, design, status, and technical specifications.
This position is part of WBD's Media Supply Chain and internal research and development team. The VE I works with the Director of Media Supply Chain Technology to complete evaluations of media technology hardware, software, and workflows. These tools will include common professional media products such as non-linear editors and transcoding systems, but may also include experimental or prototype equipment. The VEI will spend much of their time working in the Sterling R&D Technology Lab. The VE I is a clear thinker who can understand, create, and execute complex test plans and work with a wide range of production, post production, broadcast, IT, and cloud products. The VE I is a technology generalist with a strong background or education in production, post production, and IT technology.

Responsibilities
• Basic knowledge of file formats, video and audio codecs, wrapper and file metadata, timecode, frame rates, and subtitles/closed captions to be able to help design media workflow solutions
• Use common industry tools for media manipulation including but not limited to transcode software, MAM systems, media workflow orchestration, media analysis tools, data storage services, and cloud infrastructure
• Review technical specification documents and use their knowledge to design workflows that create media to satisfy those specifications.
• Participate in creating video, audio, and timed text encoding profiles based on detailed partner specifications
• Work effectively within your immediate team, providing valued contributions to production workflows and new project implementations
• Methodically troubleshoot software and hardware issues on-prem or in the cloud
• Provide documentation of existing on-prem of cloud workflows that are easily understood by your peers on your immediate and adjacent teams
• Help execute test plans and research with the assistance of the Director and fellow video engineers. Test plans will require the VEI to work with a wide range of broadcast and IT equipment including non-linear editing systems, broadcast and IP routing systems, cameras, encoding and transcoding systems, and many other professional media tools
• Help execute video quality evaluations on test files, including automated picture quality analysis. Interpret the results and report findings to the group
• Research hardware and software systems to provide purchasing recommendations for the technology lab and collaborative cloud solutions
• Provide regular updates to the Director on work in progress as well as short term and long term priorities
• Maintain and upgrade technology lab systems and cloud tools on a regularly scheduled basis. Research upgrade options and release notes to ensure systems remain online, providing recommendations to the group for an upgrade strategy and schedule. These systems can be hardware on-prem or software in the cloud
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in media technology, engineering, production, or information technology preferred
* 1+ years' experience in the television industry
* Ability to quickly learn new concepts, systems, and tools
* Clear communicator with good verbal and written communications skills
* Familiarity with common production, post production, and distribution tools including the Adobe Creative Suite, Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, broadcast camera systems and camcorders, file based media workflows, transcoding systems, and video and audio measurement tools
* Familiarity with cloud-based platforms and tools including Amazon AWS, Google GCP, Microsoft Azure a plus
* Experience with AI/ML a plus
* Experience with video quality evaluation a plus
* Familiarity with the basics of IP networks
* Programming or web development experience recommended
* Must be able to lift 50 pounds
* Must be willing to travel if required
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States

Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery's total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $87,570.00 - $162,630.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
