The Direct to Consumer (DTC) Group is a technology company within Warner Bros Discovery. We are building a global streaming video platform (OTT), and a suite of applications to support all of our network's brands globally. We are building modern container-based micro-services operated on AWS. Our platform covers everything from search, content catalogue, video transcoding, personalization, to global subscriptions, and much more. We enable performant streaming experiences across connected TVs, web, mobile phones, tablets, and consoles for a large footprint of WBD owned streaming services (HBO Max, Discovery+, CNN, and others). This is a growing, global engineering group crucial to WBD's future.
We are hiring a Staff Software Engineer within the DTC Content Experience Platform. The team is responsible for aggregating, enabling, and serving the personalized Content Discovery experience within our DTC streaming video platforms through our Experience Services APIs. We ensure all client applications worldwide have seamless access to the latest and relevant content metadata, personalized browse experiences and curations, and presentational elements to deliver a best-in-class content discovery experience to our hundreds of millions of streaming users globally across our different streaming service platforms.
Your Role Accountabilities...
• Shape the long-term technical direction of major workstreams in close partnership with Engineering peers, Product Managers, Technical Program Managers, and Designers.
• Lead system design and development of large, complex features and infrastructure, either in new domains or across multiple existing systems.
• Partner with other technical leaders to drive successful end-to-end delivery, from discovery and planning through execution and operations.
• Support the growth and development of engineers in your workstreams through coaching, design collaboration, and fostering technical excellence.
• Define and uphold standards for code quality, operational excellence, and reliable delivery across teams.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define MVPs, milestones, and product requirements that align engineering efforts with business outcomes.
• Drive architectural decisions that enable scalability, reliability, and adaptability for the future.
• Identify and address gaps, bottlenecks, or misalignments-working proactively to ensure long-term success for your team and the organization.

Qualifications and Experience...
• At least 8 years of experience with deep expertise in Java or other JVM-based languages, including advanced language features, performance tuning, and designing systems for scale and reliability.
• Extensive experience building and operating cloud-native applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS, including architecture design and production deployment.
• Strong command of distributed systems, microservice architectures, and synchronous /asynchronous communication patterns using technologies like gRPC and Kafka.
• Proven ability to design and evolve high-performance, low-latency APIs and backend systems that serve real-time, high-throughput workloads.
• Practical and architectural-level experience with persistence and caching technologies such as PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, and Caffeine, including data modeling and performance optimization.
• Deep understanding of observability and tracing, with experience driving adoption of tools like OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, or Zipkin to improve system transparency and incident response.
• Experience defining and scaling infrastructure as code practices using Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD, and GitOps workflows.
• Ability to establish robust monitoring, alerting, and logging systems using tools such as Prometheus, CloudWatch, Kibana, and PagerDuty, and ensure teams operate systems with confidence.
• Familiarity with non-blocking, asynchronous, and reactive programming paradigms, including frameworks like Spring WebFlux or Vert.x, and when to apply them effectively.
• Comfortable evaluating, introducing, and scaling technical choices across multiple teams to drive engineering velocity and system robustness.
