Job Description
Senior Software Engineer - Content Experience Platform (JVM)

..
The Direct to Consumer (DTC) Group is a technology company within Warner Bros Discovery. We are building a global streaming video platform (OTT), and a suite of applications to support all of our network's brands globally. We are building modern container-based micro-services operated on AWS. Our platform covers everything from search, content catalogue, video transcoding, personalization, to global subscriptions, and much more. We build for connected TVs, web, mobile phones, tablets, and consoles for a large footprint of WBD owned networks (Max, Discovery, Food Network, Golf TV, MotorTrend, Eurosport, Discovery Play, and many more). This is a growing, global engineering group crucial to WBD's future.
We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer within the DTC Content Experience Platform. The team is focused on handling the metadata for the global content catalog.
We are responsible for indexing the metadata and implementing an API that makes it searchable for the different consumers. We ensure all client applications worldwide have seamless access to the latest metadata for various assets, including movies, series, and live sports events.
The ideal candidate:
• Has experience with high-performance, scalable systems that have been successfully shipped to customers in production.
• Drives best practices and sets standards for the team.
• Actively contributes to architectural discussions and team meetings.
• Shows good judgment making trade-offs between immediate and long-term business needs.
• Is an advocate for data-driven decision-making and is curious about solving complex technical challenges on a large scale.
• Takes ownership of their work and consistently delivers results in a fast-paced environment.
Your Role Accountabilities...
• Lead the design and development of major functional changes to new or existing services owned by different teams.
• Troubleshoot a production issue to identify the root cause and, based on them, derive learnings to improve both development processes and system design.
• Provide guidance on design, coding, and operational best practices.
• Mentor junior engineers and positively influence the team.

Qualifications and Experience...
• Proficient in Java or other JVM languages.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, micro-service-based architectures, and asynchronized communication (e.g., using gRPC and Kafka).
• Ability to implement alerting, metrics, and logging using tools like Prometheus, CloudWatch, Kibana, PagerDuty.
• Practical knowledge of persistence and caching solutions such as PostgreSQL, Redis, ElasticSearch, Caffeine.
• Familiar with asynchronous, non-blocking, functional/reactive programming styles such as Spring WebFlux or Vert.x.
• Experience designing high-performance, low-latency APIs for real time services.
• Experience with distributed tracing (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, Zipkin).
• Experience with GitOps, Terraform, ArgoCD, or Helm for infrastructure as code.

Additional Information
On December 5, Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Netflix will acquire Warner Bros., including its film and television studios, HBO Max and HBO. The transaction is expected to close after the separation of Warner Bros. Discovery's Global Networks division, Discovery Global, into a new publicly-traded company, which is expected to be completed in Q3 2026. For more details, including leadership appointments and information on individual brands, please visit our newsroom here.
Although you will be hired by Warner Bros. Discovery, upon the planned spin-off of Discovery Global in 2026, your employment likely will transition to Warner Bros. During this period of transformation, you'll have an exciting opportunity to lay the foundation at one of the world's premier entertainment brands.
