Your New Role…

This is a role for an experienced editor who is a best-in-class shaper and sharpener of stories and ideas. This person is a talented story editor who thrives on the pace of deadline journalism and has strong news judgment and newsgathering skills. This person is also an excellent collaborator who can work with producers, correspondents, analysts, reporters, editors and other journalists around a matrixed organization to produce distinctive digital coverage of race and equality - a complex and critically important topic that intersects with every aspect of American life.

Your Role Accountabilities…
• You'll partner closely with the Race and Equality beat leader, making collaborative coverage decisions about daily editorial output to serve all platforms.
• You'll assign and edit daily news articles on race, equality, ethnicity and inclusion.
• You'll assign and edit distinctive, high-impact news features on everything from neglected communities of color in a hurricane's aftermath to how gender and race are being taught in American classrooms.
• You'll also work with a team of writers and producers, correspondents and other colleagues on coverage.
• You'll shape story ideas and angles around complex topics, serving as a partner to CNN journalists in identifying distinctive angles on top stories - and in helping to make good stories great.
• You'll edit in formats that go beyond the traditional article - including newsletters; visual projects; explanatory work that helps audiences understand the news; and real-time breaking news posts.
• You'll serve as a second set of eyes on alerts or on key pieces that need a good comb-through and/or creative punch.
• You'll work with writers to ensure that our stories, headlines, newsletters and social media posts are accurate and fair.
• CNN editors must be excellent communicators and diplomats. They are excellent providers of feedback who help elevate CNN's storytelling across a wide range of digital platforms.
• And last but never least: Editors are often the final step before a story goes to CNN's programming team to get distributed to millions of people worldwide; all news editors work intently to make sure our stories are accurate and fair so that we continue to grow the trust between CNN and our audiences.

Qualifications & Experience
• At least 7 years of digital editorial experience, preferably including coverage of race and equality issues.
• Experience editing fast-moving breaking news under deadline pressure.
• Willingness to work outside the regular 9 to 5 during major news events.
• Experience helping writers frame their stories for a national audience.
• A clear understanding of style and grammar.
• A college degree or equivalent.

The Legal Bits…
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. $98,000.00 - $182,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
