Job Description

CNN is seeking a Copy Editor who will be responsible for ensuring every script distributed to the more than 1,000 affiliates meets the editorial, legal and ethical standards of CNN.

Your New Role

In this role, the selected candidate will ensure Newsource content exceeds expectations of television stations and online digital clients. This person will also ensure the content meets the CNN brand expectations. As the Copy Editor the selected candidate will also be the supervisor of the writing group while assigning priorities to front line producers. Additionally, you will train and mentor CNN Newsource fulltime and freelance writers and producers.

Your Role Accountabilities…
• COPY EDITING - Ensures all scripts distributed by CNN Newsource are accurate and adhere to CNN's standards, guaranteeing proper attribution, balance, clarity, context, conversational style, creativity, grammar, punctuation, and spelling
• SHIFT SUPERVISING - Acts as an editorial leader in conjunction with Newsource managers. Responsible for leading a team of writers, from scheduling to contributing to performance reviews.
• ASSESSING, TRAINING AND MENTORING STAFF - Copy Editors provide all writers and producers tactful and constructive feedback about their scripts both in real-time and post-shift.

Qualifications & Experience…
• 5 years full-time broadcast news writing and/or editing preferred.
• Four-year college degree or equivalent in proven industry experience required.
• Editing skills-checking accuracy, balance, language, style.
• Ability to produce quality work quickly.
• Flexibility-ability to adapt during breaking news, ability to recognize story evolution and rewrite/update as necessary.
• Must be eager, cooperative, energetic, team-oriented.
• Leads writer team and takes active role in many aspects of business strategies.
