Job Description
The Sr. Media Systems Engineer leads efforts for the Media Engineering team at Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) Vancouver. This role is responsible for the design and support of complex Audio Visual (AV) systems throughout the Studio, and providing ongoing tech support of existing systems.Typical focus areas include:
• Custom production spaces with integrated AV & control systems
• Video Conference (VTC) capable conference and review areas with custom integrated systems
• Remote review & streaming content systems
• Presentation Theaters for Digital Cinema
• Digital Dailies/Review rooms
• AV machine rooms / IDF & comm rooms / data center
• Training/Multipurpose rooms
• ''Mobile'' review/teaming areas, cart systems
• Common areas (special events)
• Post/Editorial (Avid systems and storage, related edit suites and systems)
Roles & Responsibilities:
• Maintain expert knowledge of existing AV, data, network and related systems at WDAS
• Work with studio stakeholders to design systems for the studio as needed
• Partner closely with the Burbank based Media team to collaborate on media system design and projects, understand the scope of AV needs throughout the studio locations.
• Work with the team to innovate and improve secure content review and collaboration processes
• Provide support for post & editorial teams. Help to facilitate data syncing between split editorial teams
• Partner with other support teams to manage color calibration of relevant review display systems, including artist monitors, HDR displays and cinema projectors
• Provide technical support and assistance to WDAS staff, provide training to as needed for AV systems and features
• Perform hardware/software upgrades and other maintenance
• Author software for AV control systems (Python, Q-sys, Lua, C++), maintain existing programs
• Maintain current knowledge of cutting edge AV technology
• Assist in the planning and setup for company events
• Work with outside vendors to procure, install, commission, and maintain equipment
Candidate should have the following experience:
• College degree in Engineering or similar
• 3-5 years experience with complex audio/visual systems design,
operation and installation
• Working knowledge of all common types of consumer and professional video and audio equipment
• Familiarity with professional production equipment such as cameras, audio video switchers, DCI projectors, disk-based playback systems, PA systems, audio processors, digital audio mixers, etc.
• Familiarity with high-end video-teleconferencing equipment such as Cisco/Tandberg, Polycom and Haivision.
• Recording studio engineering and/or film production AV engineering experience
• Familiarity/experience with advanced IT network concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP,
• Familiarity with common AV networking concepts, such as streaming technology, multicast IP networking, Dante, AES67, SDVoE, etc
• Common AV system programming experience (Crestron, AMX, Q-Sys, Lua, Python, etc)
• Advanced Mac OS and Windows proficiency, familiarity with Linux command line
• Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical staff
• Ability to identify and address technical issues without direct supervision, while also working effectively as part of a team.
• Strong understanding of color science concepts, including color space management and device calibration
• Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, and other Diagraming/Documentation Tools.
Additional experience preferred:
• Infocomm CTS-D certification
• AVID ACSR or ACU
• Previous professional IT experience
• Avid/Final Cut Pro/Pro Tools editing experience
• CAD proficiency
• Q-Sys Control Level 2, Quantum, and Architect Certified
• Other Software development experience (Python, C++, etc)
• Prior systems administration experience
