Job Description

Curbed, New York Magazine's site dedicated to real estate, architecture, design, and urbanism, is looking for a News Writer to write daily stories about what's happening in New York City with wit, precision, and humor. The ideal candidate is driven, nimble, and flexible, able to synthesize and comment on the big and small stories that reflect the energy and dynamics of city life.

What you'll do:
• Write at least 2 stories a day about New York City's built environment and the people and forces that shape it
• Quickly synthesize and comment on the big city news of the day
• Report on small, hidden, and less-covered corners of the city that deserve more attention
• Pitch story ideas on a daily basis
• Contribute to Curbed's bigger reporting projects and features as part of a team
• Work with multiple editors to expand the site's city, real estate, and urbanism coverage

What you'll bring:
• At least 2 -3 years of reporting and blogging experience at a daily news site
• A distinct point of view and voice on the page
• A sense of humor, irreverence, and fearlessness
• An ability to meet deadlines and juggle quick turnaround assignments with longer-lead stories
• An understanding of New York Magazine's sensibility
• A deep curiosity and drive to understand the power players, controversies, and conflicts shaping the city
• Familiarity with the workings of New York City
