Job Description

The Strategic Planning & Analytics (SP&A) team is a highly visible group that works closely with senior executives across UPI and the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group at a head office (Los Angeles), regional, and territory level. The group works along side other business units within UPI on a wide range of strategic initiatives including slate strategy, release planning, analytics, business development, systems & data, and box office reporting.

The Senior Analyst, Distribution Strategy & Analytics, will be part of a team focused on international box office reporting, competitive title analysis, industry trends, and UPI release planning. Based out of London, this position reports into the VP of Distribution Strategy & Analytics, and will play a key role in supporting analytical activities across the entire International landscape, with additional focus on the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. Additionally, this role will be the primary analytical resource for leading the strategy, development, and maintenance of the team's analytical systems & data, as well as creating and managing UPI's analytical tools used for central decision-making related to release dating, slate & competitive analysis, and theatrical distribution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Systems & Data

Primary analytical resource for systems and data:
• Assist in the development, testing, and feedback of UPI systems and tools
• Development of business intelligence dashboards using a variety of analytical platforms, providing valuable insights for the UPI Distribution teams in both London and Los Angeles
• Improve data integrity and validation processes. Develop and implement checks and validations that will identify historical and current data issues and/or gaps, and carry out fixes
• Resolve urgent data issues, and work with internal IT teams or external sources to determine root causes
• Work with local teams to ensure engagement with systems, as well as collect feedback on usage and/or issues
• Continual work to improve efficiency of systems and processes that provide the underlying data for all internal analysis

Reporting & Analysis
• Reporting and analysis on in-release UPI and competitive films, including ongoing performance assessment, stats and records tracking, drafting of internal communications, and overall forecasting
• Tracking of ongoing box office and cinemagoing trends across the International markets, including post-pandemic recovery, local product performance, and changing cinemagoing habits
• Analysis and input on changing theatrical windows across territories, and the impact of PVOD/PEST releases
• Primary support for the EMEA Distribution team (in London) on UPI's slate strategy, release planning, and analytics, aligning analytical disciplines/approaches/output with that of the head office SP&A team (in Los Angeles); this includes, but is not limited to (1) Comparable film analysis, (2) Release dating analysis, and (3) Industry and competitive title trends for the EMEA region
• Box office data and release date updates & maintenance for UPI and competitive titles, acting as a central hub for communication with UPI offices around the world
• Provide ad-hoc analytical support for the SP&A team in Los Angeles on key head office projects, analyses, and presentations
• Build business intelligence dashboards using a variety of analytical platforms, providing valuable insights for the UPI Distribution teams in both London and Los Angeles

Qualifications

The role requires superior analytical and strategic skills. The individual must possess the ability to interface effectively with multiple levels of management, ranging from senior executives to business unit managers and 3rd parties. The ideal candidate will also possess:
• Bachelor's Degree, preferably with an understanding of film and/or media market business models
• At least 2+ years of experience in research, analysis, or relevant analytical fields, preferably within the entertainment industry
• Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize extremely large sets of data into cohesive takeaways
• High proficiency with analytical tool suites, specifically Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with competency in data visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, MicroStrategy, Tableau)
• Strong database experience and working knowledge of database platforms (e.g. Snowflake, GCP, Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio)
• High proficiency in SQL (e.g. Transact-SQL, ANSI, BigQuery) is desirable
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author and deliver high quality presentations
• Self-starter with ability to work in a dynamic team environment to tight deadlines
• Flexibility to work weekends (~1 in 5)
