Universal Pictures Content Group (UPCG) is a content repertoire division within the infrastructure of the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG) and distribution footprint of NBCUniversal. With offices around the world and central headquarters in London, UPCG acquires and produces a diverse range of quality content across several genres (feature film, documentary, family entertainment, comedy, music, sports, live events & special interest) for global distribution. It's multiplatform sales and distribution footprint includes theatrical, television (Free & Pay), digital (SVOD, AVOD & Transactional), home video, as well as consumer products. The business uniquely focuses on management of licensors, talent, partnerships, brands and distribution of content across all rights and across the full lifecycle. It is a business rooted in Artists and Repertoire (A&R) culture, driven by relationships, innovation and ambitious growth plans.
Role Overview
The aim of this role is to assist in sourcing new acquisition & production opportunities for global and international markets across key genres (mostly feature films documentary and special interest). It is an exciting and unique opportunity to be part of UPCG's ambitious long-range plan.
Key Responsibilities
• Identify new content & distribution opportunities.
• Proactively source, evaluate and acquire titles on an All Rights basis.
• Deliver an annual signing target for new content, across key genres & formats;
• Run P&Ls, prepare and negotiate commercial deal points (offer letters) independently.
• Create and oversee board pack submissions.
• Analyse comparables and data sets.
• Manage and grow a global client roster of licensors, sales agents, talent agencies, filmmakers, content creators, media (co)financiers, record companies and distributors.
• Attend markets, industry events, and screenings as appropriate.
• Define title release strategies and manage the rollout.
• Work with key stakeholders, both externally (licensors etc.) and across the Group (marketing & PR, operations, content strategy, legal, finance & production teams, as well as other divisions within NBCU etc.).
• Generate and execute on original new content ideas.
• Manage internal processes and proactively resolve any issues that may arise.
Key Skills and Experience
• Proven experience in content acquisitions, and/or content sales, and/or production finance.
• An entrepreneurial and self-starter approach to deal-making with an astute commercial focus.
• Strong creative sensibilities with a passion for finding fresh content.
• A commercial instinct for potentially successful content and the foresight to acquire this content ahead of competitors.
• The ability to build strong and lasting relationships across the industry to support and work closely with our roster of licensors and talent.
• Demonstrable knowledge and experience of All Rights content distribution.
• Able to work under pressure in a fast moving and demanding environment.
• Competent in Excel, Power Point, Word.
• Team player who has strong verbal and written communication skills & is well organized.
• Analytical mind set with an commercial awareness.
• Results oriented – deadline & achievement focused individual.
• Independent, dynamic and positive team building attitude.
• Flexible: hours of work are determined by project/business needs – often working across time-zones.
