Job Description
Universal Music Group is seeking an employment law attorney with experience advising on domestic and international legal issues. The successful candidate will report to the EVP, Chief Compliance Officer and Employment counsel and provide legal support to Human Resources and Executive Management. The ideal candidate will welcome the opportunity to be part of a fast-paced environment and will be an integral member of a team tasked with providing guidance on employment law for the world's music leader and innovator. Job Function:
• Provide day-to-day proactive employment law advice, assistance and counsel for a full range of employment issues, including but not limited to:, performance management, employee discipline, termination, severance, workplace investigations, policy development, employment agreements, FLSA, FMLA, wage and hour issues, workplace accommodations, applications, training, incentive pay, and the protection of intellectual property, trade secrets and confidential information
• Work with Human Resources and senior executives to manage and respond to employee relations issues, investigations, and federal and/or state charges
• Draft and negotiate a heavy volume of employment agreements
• Handle reductions in force in conjunction with Human Resources, including WARN compliance and conducting disparate impact analysis
• Draft and negotiate termination/settlement agreements
• Recommend, implement and continuously improve employment related policies
• Work collaboratively and responsively with a broad range of colleagues ensuring good relationships between legal, human resources and management of business units to facilitate a coordinated team approach
• Review independent contractor designations and draft independent contractor agreements
• Work with international territories on ex-pat employment assignments
• Work with immigration counsel on employee related visa issues
• Oversight and partnering with outside counsel on employment related matters
• Other duties as assigned

• A minimum of 10 years substantive employment and labor experience
• 'Serve as the Regional COVID-19 Compliance Officer
• A combination of both in-house and law firm practice experience is desired
• Prior experience working at or with music/entertainment/creative industries is desired
• JD and excellent academic credentials required
