Beyond Good & Evil 2 is an action-adventure open world game set in a captivating space opera universe and the direct prequel to the 2003 cult classic. Based on a breakthrough technology driven by the proprietary Voyager engine, Beyond Good & Evil 2 aims to offer a seamless experience of exploration and space piracy across a solar system full of exotic locations, colorful characters and mysteries to uncover, solo or with friends. Why we need you:
Missions:
Within the BG&E2 Character team, you will be responsible for creating the project's characters. From the Art Director's brief to integrating your work into the game, your skills will help support gameplay and narrative needs, contributing to building the game's universe.
What you will do
• Understand and interpret concept art, and propose creative solutions to artistic challenges.
• Create complete assets for human and hybrid avatars: anatomies, costumes, gear:
• Produce 3D models sculpts and low-res models (anatomy, facial, outfits, haircuts, accessories, equipment, etc.),
• Baking and texture creation,
• In-game material setup.
• Add strong visual storytelling: materials, organic details, scars, etc.
• Work collaboratively with other teams (Riggers, Animators, Materials and Tech Artists) to meet in-game quality goals and improve workflows.
• Optimize assets to meet technical budgets.
• Contribute to the creation of the Character team's asset libraries.
• Contribute to quality benchmarking and enrich the project's visual bible.
• Support junior or freelance profiles to maintain a consistent quality level.
Qualifications
What we're looking for
An experienced, reliable, autonomous, and curious character artist. You're passionate about bringing game characters to life with a strong and varied artistic identity. You have a keen eye for quality in your work. You understand the needs of other disciplines so your work integrates seamlessly into the world and player experience.
Key skills for this role
• Several years of experience producing video game characters.
• Experience on an open-world or narrative game with a strong artistic vision.
• Portfolio showing anatomical knowledge, form quality, visual storytelling, and material craftsmanship.
• Film/VFX profiles welcome if familiar with real-time production.
Artistic skills & Craftsmanship
• You can adapt to a complex art direction: stylized realism, Pirate Sci-Fi universe the DNA of BG&E2.
• You can translate a 2D concept into 3D assets, from main heroes to background NPCs.
• You understand proportion harmony and readable silhouettes for a TPS game.
• You master ZBrush, Maya, Marvelous Designer, Substance (Painter/Designer).
• You master the technologies and pipelines related to character creation for video games (scans, photogrammetry, groom, hair cards, FACS, shaders, topology, etc.).
Reliability & Ownership
• You know where to invest your time: Quality vs Optimization.
• You understand project constraints to deliver within production timelines.
• You're proactive: you push the quality of your assets all the way to their in-game context.
• You know how to optimize and finalize your assets to improve the overall quality of the game.
Team spirit & Mentoring
• You can give and receive feedback with peers and share best practices.
• You stay open to feedback: AD revisions, gameplay adjustments, engine optimizations, etc.
• You understand the needs of other teams (Rig, Anim, Materials, etc.) and technical constraints to achieve the best in-game results.
• You can adapt to the project's production tools and contribute to improving them alongside tech teams.
• You can support junior or freelance artists and help spread best practices (documentation, training, etc.).
That is why a good level of French is required.
