13News Now/WVEC, Tegna's ABC affiliate in Norfolk, Virginia, is searching for a Senior Digital Content Producer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and has an audience-first approach to writing, packaging and distributing digital content. This is a mid-level position on our Digital Team, reporting to our Digital Director. The person in this role is a digital ambassador in our newsroom who helps drive audience-focused content decisions across the station's platforms and leads the charge in identifying and taking action on digital content opportunities that will grow the 13News Now audience.

Senior Digital Content Producers work alongside other digital team members to manage the editorial production of content across 13News Now digital, streaming and social media platforms. But they also help lead the team in monitoring real-time data to determine digital traffic patterns and make content decisions tied to the data. Someone who is successful in this role will regularly capture trending search opportunities through repackaging of original content or creating quick-turnaround content through desk reporting or aggregating information or social reaction about a developing story.

Senior Digital Content Producers also help coordinate and manage digital projects, build relationships and encourage communication across the newsroom that support a greater understanding of digital best practices and audience needs, and help digital team leadership provide feedback, coaching and training to all content creators in the station.

Qualified candidates should be strong writers, first, with the ability to write quickly and accurately. They should also have solid news judgment and experience producing/packaging and copy-editing content for digital platforms. A working knowledge of SEO and social media strategy as well as CMS, video-editing and photo-editing software is preferred.

Responsibilities:
• Monitors trends and analytics to inform editorial decisions and identify content opportunities in real time
• Takes initiative in creating content around key digital audience drivers, like breaking and trending news, weather, sports, and politics
• Tracks multiple streams of communication and information and helps the digital team handle and prioritize tasks
• Helps coach other digital team members on where and how to find story ideas and information, including how to use metrics and social listening to be audience-focused
• Works with digital team leadership to interpret metrics and craft insightful and actionable reports that highlight digital successes as well as opportunities for growth, providing the newsroom feedback that reinforces digital best practices and an audience-first mindset about our content
• Helps guide reporters, photojournalists and other content creators on the production of their content for digital audiences
• Builds their own expertise in specific areas of digital audience work, like SEO, audience analytics, social media and video editing
• Works alongside digital special projects producer to produce advanced digital storytelling for special content, like TSRs, on-air specials and investigations
• Creates, packages and publishes digital content, clips videos, posts on social media, sends push alerts and email newsletters, programs content across all digital platforms, and all other reporting and content packaging and distribution tasks required of digital content producers
• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

Requirements:
• BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
• 3 to 5 years of experience in digital content production in fast-paced news environments
• Strong news and editorial judgment, and understands the tenets of professional journalism
• Strong understanding of digital and social media analytics
• Strong knowledge of AP style and copy editing
• Experienced team player with excellent communication skills
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure and meet deadlines
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
• Experience with content management systems and photo/video editing software
• Skilled in writing/producing engaging, audience-driven content
• A working knowledge of social media strategy on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
• Be well-versed in SEO best practices
• Basic image/video editing skills, and experience creating graphics and videos for social media
