Assistant News Director

Job Description

WNEP-TV, TEGNA's ABC affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pa. is looking for an Assistant News Director. We need an outstanding leader and solid journalist to run our day-to-day newsroom operations.

We are looking for someone with passion, innovation, and a desire to produce great television news every day for northeastern and central Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute long-term newsroom strategy
• Oversee the daily editorial process
• Oversee the on-air execution of newscasts
• Train, develop, and coach the newsroom team
• Source and recruit top-notch journalists
• Participate in coordinating and executing all aspects of coverage, from breaking news to enterprise story production and news specials
• Ensure that news coverage meets company policies, industry codes, FCC rules, and station brand values
• Oversee special projects, including election coverage
• Direct newsroom operations and schedules

Job Requirements:

Requirements:
• 7 years news industry experience with 5 years of management experience
• Track record of quality journalism and highest integrity and ethical decisions
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
• Strong planning and team organization skills
• Experience with consumer analytics, social media, and digital tools
• Strong writing and editing skills for broadcast, social and digital platforms.
• Bachelor's degree in journalism, related field, and/or news leadership experience preferred
