Job Description

NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48 are looking for an experienced manager and talented photojournalist to lead our team of videographers. Applicants should have experience executing a creative vision for the news department with expertise in training. Candidates should be able to execute safety standards and solve any logistical obstacles that are news related. Candidates will also work closely with the Vice President of News and News Operations manager to hire qualified candidates to the photography staff.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
• Execute the creative vision of the news department in conjunction with the Vice President of News and News Operations manager
• Collaborate with the News Operations Manager to develop processes and procedures to maintain equipment and safety standards for all news gathering purposes
• Ensure all photographers and multi-media journalists are properly trained in the operation of all equipment including microwave trucks and cellular bonded transmissions
• Lead teams on remote and live production for daily news operation and special events
• Candidate must have a strong knowledge base of ENG cameras, lenses, should-mount cameras, DSLR and other equipment used by staff
• Research new technology and make recommendations on what to purchase
• Take a leadership role when dealing with logistical problems concerning daily news gathering and special projects
• Contribute to the Investigative and Consumer Units, providing high-level camera operations, supporting elements, graphic design and editing
• Work as a field photographer when needed
• Maintain stock and storage of all ENG supplies and equipment
• Monitor photographer expenses and help with strategic planning for the news department
• Work with all outside vendors for news-related issues
• Provide regular feedback and coaching to photographers and skillfully manage any challenging conversations relative to performance or other items.
• Identify training resources to continue to grow the skills of the photography staff and advance their work.
• Deliver yearly performance reviews and assist on salary planning
• Host classes to improve skills of photography staff
• Must be reachable to answer questions during off hours in cases of emergencies

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum 5 years' experience in news management
• Ability to work closely and collaboratively with managers and staff across departments
• Proven track record of ENG and technical expertise
• Superior videography and editing skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to teach and train
• Can act decisively under stress and tight deadlines
• Ability to work flexible hours (including weekends) and to return to work in emergencies depending upon news coverage

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be willing to work at the station in San Jose, CA
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
• Must be 18 years or older
• Must have a valid Driver's License
• Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and overnights

• Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

Salary range: $90,000 - $120,000 (bonus eligible)
