KFMB-TV (CBS 8 and CW San Diego), the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in San Diego, CA is looking for a dynamic, tech-savvy Traffic Anchor/Weekend Weather to bring innovative traffic and weather coverage to our viewers across broadcast, digital, and social platforms. If you're a creative self-starter with a passion for keeping viewers informed on how weather and traffic will impact their day, we want you to be part of our team! You will join our weekday morning broadcast team (3 days per week), serving as our traffic anchor. On weekends, you'll bring innovative weather coverage to our viewers across broadcast, digital, and social platforms. In this role, you will create and produce real-time traffic and weather content, from live traffic coverage to in-depth forecasts, providing our audience with up-to-the-minute information and engaging stories. You'll work alongside a talented weather team, using cutting-edge technology and production techniques to enhance traffic and weather stories with graphics, animations, and social media engagement.
Responsibilities:
• Own morning traffic coverage with personality and expertise-helping viewers navigate their morning with real-time updates and smart, useful insights.
• Thrive in a live, breaking news environment, where you can pivot yourself quickly when the morning commute takes an unexpected turn.
• Utilize creative storytelling and compelling graphics to make both weather and traffic reports more than just maps and delays.
• Work collaboratively with a team-focused newsroom that values innovation, inclusivity, and creativity.
• Engage Viewers across platforms: Research and create engaging weather stories, integrating video, images, social media, webcams, creative production techniques and user-generated content to enhance storytelling and drive engagement across all platforms.
• Use your meteorology expertise to monitor weather systems and work directly with our Chief Meteorologist to deliver accurate forecasts.
• Perform live reports and interviews on transportation news and community stories.
• Collaborate with producers, assignment and digital editors, and co-anchors.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in meteorology, journalism or related field
• Minimum of five years of on-air experience as a forecaster or traffic anchor on television • Demonstrated ability to post graphics and content to various digital media platforms.
• Experience with WSI traffic systems, a plus
• Ability to edit using EDIUS
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with San Diego roadways and its transportation network, strongly preferred
• Skills: Strong video editing skills and ability to produce high-quality content. Proven ability to engage and grow audiences through compelling headlines and social media content.
• Writing and Editing: Familiarity with AP Style and the ability to edit or rewrite stories.
• Creative and Driven: A highly motivated individual who takes an innovative, proactive approach to content creation.
Pay Range
$80,000 - $90,000 USD
