Job Description
KYTX, the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate, in Tyler, Texas, is looking for a creative and energetic Sports Anchor and Multi-Skilled Journalist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be an innovative sports journalist who thrives on telling local sports stories for all platforms through memorable writing, photography and editing. The right person for this job looks beyond the highlights and scores of games and builds sportscasts with great storytelling and local content. This journalist should be a self-starter who is committed to developing sources to break news and identify strong enterprise content. We are looking for someone committed to being a local sports expert on everything East Texas has to offer.
KYTX produces two live remote high school football-focused shows each Friday in the fall, the Under the Lights Kickoff Show at 6:30 p.m., and Under the Lights at 10 p.m. The ideal candidate will co-produce both shows at a high level, while helping to lead a team of journalists gathering previews, game highlights, and post-game sound at locations across the viewing area. The right person for this job will be prepared to offer commentary, perspective, and expertise on rivalries and matchups.
The chosen candidate will also perform newscast anchoring duties on weekends and as needed throughout the week.
With an emphasis being put on streaming, the applicant must also be engaging on digital and prepare to create OTT specials weekly.

Responsibilities:
• Produce and anchor unique sportscasts that break through the traditional approach
• Generate timely, original story ideas and have the skills as a multi-skilled journalist to write, produce, shoot and edit compelling sports content for daily newscasts, sportscasts, sports specials, and digital platforms
• Work closely with the sports department, news department, assignment desk, and production team to coordinate stories and creatively present content
• Work with sports department to guide newsroom during breaking sports news
• Deliver on-air live sports events in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner as both a reporter in the field and an anchor in the studio
• Maintain a strong working knowledge of a variety of sports and actively follow all sporting news developments
• Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media and web, including attaching images and streaming video
• Perform other tasks, including writing, shooting, editing and reporting/anchoring news stories as required by supervisor
• Anchor weekend newscasts and newscasts throughout the week as needed
Requirements:
• BA/BS in journalism or a communications-related field preferred
• A passion for sports and an interest in telling the stories of athletes and teams
• Ability to shoot and edit content on your own and with a team
• Possess a clear understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
• Demonstrate a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to collaborate with sports team
• A strong natural on-camera presentation
• Strong social media skills, including an active sports presence on Twitter and Facebook
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking sports situations and changing events
• Flexible work hours, including travel
• Must have a valid driver's license
