KVUE in Austin, Texas, seeks a dynamic, engaging, and enterprising journalist who wants to be in one of the fastest-growing and most diverse news markets in the country. The successful candidate must be deeply committed to local news, be a natural competitor who consistently breaks lead stories in the Austin market, and have a passion for covering breaking news and weather. You must be an excellent storyteller, an effective developer of sources, and understand that the news cycle extends to multiple platforms.

Responsibilities:
• Deliver engaging and accurate on-air news reports
• Enterprise compelling content that leads shows, breaks news, and drives audiences to watch
• Develop news sources for general assignments and special areas of interest
• Shoot, write, and edit content for air and digital platforms as a multi-skilled journalist
• Write and post daily on all digital and social platforms
• Perform authoritative, compelling live shots in developing and breaking news situations
• Mine the community for sources to stay informed about local events and ideas
• Identify, research, write, and produce stories within specific frameworks and deadlines
• Maintain and develop sources to elevate reporting quality
• Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.)
• Use social media and digital tools to research, discover, and distribute content
• Attend editorial meetings and contribute daily story ideas
• Write in an authentic, captivating, and concise manner
• Perform other tasks as assigned by a supervisor
Requirements:
• 3-4 years of combined reporting and MSJ experience
• Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
• Portfolio showcasing strong breaking, general, and feature news reporting
• Austin or Texas knowledge and connections preferred
• Solid news judgment, creativity, and ethical decision-making skills
• Strong writing, production, and tease-writing abilities
• ENPS, EDIUS, and Axis graphics experience preferred
• Excellent social media and digital storytelling skills, including proficiency across all current and emerging platforms
• Ability to work well under constant time pressure and deadlines
• Must be flexible with scheduling, including overnights, mornings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to calmly handle live breaking news and changing events
• Proven ability to generate creative, content-driven live shots
