KGW, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Portland, OR, is seeking a Morning Executive Producer to oversee our talented KGW News at Sunrise team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to success and a desire to mentor and provide regular feedback to the team.
Our morning show has expanded, and our audience is growing. KGW News at Sunrise is a multi-platform show, airing on broadcast for two hours and continuing on our streaming platform, KGW+, for additional morning news coverage. We seek a leader who shares this expansive vision and wants to bring morning news to a fast-growing streaming audience.
As the executive producer, you will work closely with producers, reporters, anchors, photographers, editors and more to create captivating shows and explore new methods of presenting audience-focused content that aligns with the needs of our community.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate and execute long-term newsroom strategy
• Train, develop, and coach the morning team with a focus on mentoring producers
• Oversee the daily morning editorial process
• Oversee the on-air execution and provide coaching and showcasing techniques
• Review, approve scripts, and provide writing/copy editing to rundowns to ensure accuracy and quality
• Participate in coordinating all aspects of coverage for the morning show, from breaking news to enterprise story production and specials
• Collaborate with digital and streaming teams to help shape the growth of KGW+, our 24/7 streaming app, by identifying and contributing content that extends the reach and impact of our morning coverage
• Strategize ways to repurpose, repackage, or originate morning content for KGW+ to meet evolving viewer habits across platforms
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
• Prior industry experience as a news producer or executive producer
• Track record of quality journalism, high integrity, and ethical decision-making
• Passion for growing journalists and fostering a creative, positive, and collaborative newsroom
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news, and changing events
• Strong organization, planning skills and the ability to work under constant time-sensitive deadlines
• Knowledge of AP ENPS, Edius, and content management systems a plus
