Job Description

9NEWS is looking for a veteran print or digital journalist who is known for breaking news and bringing perspective and context to developing stories. This experienced reporter can balance daily news and long-term projects to produce impactful journalism that empowers people to make informed decisions for themselves and their families. This reporter is familiar with the topics and issues impacting Coloradans and has an established network of sources.

This position is not a traditional television news reporter role. Candidates are not expected to have experience shooting or editing video. Producing video packages is not a requirement for this position.

The ideal candidate is comfortable being on camera, live or recorded, to talk about their stories with anchors or other reporters. You can independently gather visual and audio elements using tools such as a cell phone or DSLR camera. You are also ok with your process being documented and recorded by a team member to be shared with our audience.

Your work will be published first for our 9NEWS.com readers and then incorporated into our shows or programs for our viewers on 9NEWS on KUSA, KTVD and 9NEWS+.

Responsibilities:
• Work closely with news leadership to deliver high quality journalism across 9NEWS platforms
• Generate, report, write, and publish articles independently or in collaboration with other reporters
• Break news as well as craft compelling longform narratives
• Produce multiple complete original enterprise digital stories weekly
• Appear on camera, live or recorded, to discuss your journalism
• Attend daily editorial meetings to pitch original news content
• Develop stories that include a wide range of voices and perspectives
• Provide background, context, and perspectives to breaking and developing news
• Work with sources to deliver content that differentiates 9NEWS from its competitors

Pay Range: $38.47 - $43.27

Job Requirements:
• Track record of high-impact journalism
• At least 5 years of reporting experience, preferably in print or digital news organizations
• Excellent news judgment and commitment to high standards for fair and accurate reporting
• Skilled in maintaining and developing a wide range of sources across different areas of focus
• Collaborative spirit, curiosity, open-mindedness
• Commitment to fairness, integrity, independence, and to following the facts wherever they lead
• Colorado community experience is a plus
• Bilingual, Spanish-speaking, is a plus
• A bachelor's or master's degree in journalism, communications or similar is preferred
• Comfortable working in an office environment with occasional outdoor and traveling
