Job Description
ABC10 in Sacramento, CA is looking for an Assistant News Director to partner with the Director of Content to carry out the day-to-day operations of the news department. Seeking a dynamic, experienced News leader with excellent news judgment. With the direction of the Director of Content, the Assistant News Director will oversee daily news operations, supporting news managers including the Digital Director.

Responsibilities:
• Decide in concert with other news managers including the Director of Content, the team's story selection, personnel assigned to cover stories and the angle and approach to news stories, with a focus on innovative live, local, and late breaking hard news.
• Will manage the assignment desk and assist leading the editorial team in concert with other newsroom managers. Strong planning skills are a must. A qualified candidate must also demonstrate knowledge of current local, national, and international events.
• Assist in crafting a planning strategy with news managers for future stories and segments on multiple newscasts and support the digital team.
• Protect & promote station ''brand image'' within the newsroom; work with anchors, producers, and reporters on delivering the team's news strategy with consistency in news presentation, writing, graphics & storytelling.
• Review and approve newscast rundowns and proofread scripts prior to air.
• Assist in overseeing producers, reporters, and anchors to improve news content execution on all platforms.
• Liaison with Director of Content, and the Digital Director for web & social media efforts to produce/promote content on all platforms.
• Supervise producers, reporters, photographers in the daily execution of newscast content, presentation, and style.
• Monitor performance of anchors, producers, assignment editors, reporters & photographers, and report concerns to News Director.
• Produce and lead the team's coverage of major breaking news stories and special events.
• Support scheduling news personnel.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Content or General Manager.

Budgeted Compensation Range: $120K - $125K

Job Requirements:
• Innovative mindset and strong organizational, communication, management and writing skills.
• Thorough understanding of assignment desk duties and producing news content on multiple platforms.
• Strong news judgment.
• Manager experience, producer or assignment editor in a major/medium television market preferred.
• College degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred.
• Outstanding people skills; a team player.
• A minimum of three years' experience in news management with noted leadership skills, required.
• Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws.
• Must have demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts.
• Positive leader who encourages team building through a collaborative approach.
• Must have excellent supervisory, people and management skills. Must be organized with a strong attention to detail.
