Assistant News Director
Atlanta is a career destination for many journalists, as one of the most dynamic, growing and diverse news markets. Here's a rare chance to become one of the senior news leaders at WXIA (11Alive), the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Atlanta. We are on a fast track to hire an experienced news manager to supervise the morning daypart – broadcast, streaming and digital – from sunrise through noon. You will raise the bar by providing the team with laser focus on the news and information viewers most need and expect to get their day started. You'll have editorial freedom to use your fresh eyes to create a news experience that grows audience share and loyalty.
The winning candidate is not a novice. You've worked in the trenches. You are at home in a production control room. You inspire a team to create unique and exciting content on all platforms. You are proficient with live news-gathering tools and bring knowledge of live streaming. Each day you will work arm-in-arm with anchors, reporters, producers and assignment editors to own weather and the big story, plus showcase content that aligns with our growth strategy to super-serve the Atlanta audience with solutions on topics top of mind in our great city: safety, traffic/transportation, cost of living and community-level issues.

This is an exempt position reporting to the News Content Director, with a dotted line to the Digital Director.
Responsibilities:
• Guide editorial decision-making in the morning daypart, all platforms
• Ensure our content is competitive, presented with context and seeks accountability and solutions
• Craft and edit stories of all lengths on all platforms for specific audiences
• Meet daily deadlines
• Combine live pictures, graphics, compelling video and emotional sound to create an engaging experience for our audience.
• Continuously try new things
• Use data to drive content decisions
• Challenge traditional ways of the past
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree preferred in journalism, communications or related field
• 7+ years of local news management experience, preferably including local morning television. Experience should also include direct reports
• Top-notch communication skills are an absolute must, plus experience with tough conversations
• Proven track record of growing audience share
• Solid journalistic judgment and a news philosophy that emphasizes balance, accuracy, fair and unique local content, and topics inside the 11Alive content pillars: safety, traffic, cost of living and community.
• Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism and our obligation to hold the powerful accountable
• Skills in producing content-driven newscasts with personality
• Organizational skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Ability to calmly pivot in live, breaking news situations and changing events
• Experience using AI to bring about newsroom efficiencies
• Familiarity with or a reason to relocate to Atlanta will set your application apart
