Position Summary:

Reporting to the Head of Creative Operations, the Head of CG is responsible for day-to-day CG supervision and long-term workflow development. Working across every department, from Assets to Compositing, the Head of CG works closely with the VFX/DFX Supervisors and show creative leadership (eg Asset Supervisors, 2D Supervisors) to: identify workflows and tools; offer strategies to deliver the show as efficiently as possible, and to assess technical options.

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategy and working standards:
• Work together with the Head of Creative Operations in each territory and with Department Heads to ensure that MPC Film maintains a consistent workflow, pipeline and toolset that directly correspond to the established working practices across the company.
• Monitor, measure and report on issues and opportunities within agreed formats and timescales.
• Ensure that the quality of work remains to the high standards of MPC Film.

Manage and develop direct reporting staff:
• Main point of contact for CG Supervisors.
• Main point of contact for TDs and TAs.
• Provide daily support on any issues they or members of their team may be having and to escalate such matters.
• Create unity amongst the CG Sups and TDs ensuring regular communication with their counter parts in other sites.
• Work with the VFX/DFX Supervisor, Creative Leaderships, Leads and Heads of Departments to define the technical approach for a show
• Ensure a blueprint specific to the show is created to define the workflows and the tools that will be used per sequence
• Hand this blueprint over to the supervision team assigned to the show, ensuring that all workflow approaches have been discussed
• Be part of the team that reviews and approves review the Blueprint when presented by the show CG Supervisor, working closely with them if any changes are required
• Work with the software department to initiate development of tools/workflows that are needed for the show

Additional Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with editorial/prod ops to validate send options for each show
• Be the architect behind non-show specific workflows, ensuring they are rolled out effectively to all projects (e.g check pointing)
• Collaborate with Technology to identify problems with the render farm and report to appropriate parties
• Provide support and mentorship to CG Supervisors, ensuring that any problem raised to Central Supervisors has been discussed with the CG Supervisor attached to the show first
• Should ensure ownership of problems/solutions is being handled by the CG Supervisor attached to the project

Qualifications
• 6-7 years of proven leadership and management experience in a leading VFX company or associated industry
• Excellent analytical problem solving skills – you have the ability to look at a problem, break it down and deliver solutions. Desire to learn from others and to take on increasingly challenging work.
• Excellent communication skills – you need to relay your knowledge across the pipeline to ensure workflows follow your approved plan
• Team player approach with the ability to take direction/feedback
• Ability to successfully delegate and manage projects
• Ability to understand client approval process
• Strong sense of team dynamics and a positive morale generating style
• Able to manage a time-sensitive workload with an urgent and extremely organized manner
