Summary of Position

In support of Starz global expansion, the Dual Language Captioning Editor is responsible for creating English/Spanish closed captioning/subtitles and forced narrative products according to FCC mandates for on-air products for all domestic Starz Entertainment channels. Prioritize all captioning/subtitling projects assigned. Expedite all offline text assets for pre-recorded Starz programming. The schedule for this position is Sun-Thu.

Responsibilities
• Transcribe and/or translate programming to create LAS or English files by listening through headphones while viewing video programming.
• Creation or reformat of captions, subtitles and forced narratives against provided picture to be used across Starz global platforms.
• Proofread scripts, PDF's, word documents and transfer hard copy files to digital format.
• Evaluate incoming text for quality, including accurate placement, grammar, identification of sound cues and effects.
• Reformat existing text files to alternate frame rates and versions.
• Conduct research for correct spellings, terms, translations, and information to ensure accuracy when creating and syncing text.
• Ability to research and retrieve caption/subtitle files from various internet sources.
• Encoding and exporting of text files for QC and/or delivery.
• Maintain tracking system and archives for all Starz created captions, subtitles and forced narratives, including text files from third party vendors and various licensors, as well as applicable scripts and notes.
• Work directly with Captioning Manager and International Materials and Localization teams to confirm priorities and timelines.
• Alert upper management to any titles that are out of compliance and recommend solutions.
• Work closely with upper departmental management and Engineering to troubleshoot technical issues.
• Active role in updating and creating CC Quality Standards Manual, as well as training other captioners to become familiar with International processes.
• Staying on top of current technologies and keeping manager informed of anything that may help our workflow; i.e., equipment, software.

Qualifications & Skills
• High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education a plus, but degree completion not required.
• Proficiency in the use of captioning systems such as MacCaption and EZTitles.
• Experience with and understanding of captioning and subtitling specifications worldwide.
• Skilled in sustained concentration on audio tracks of media, with the ability to decipher subtle sound cues from recorded programs; training in transcription, captioning and subtitles.
• Excellent typing skills.
• Excellent research skills with the ability to research spellings of uncommon words, places, events, and names in various languages.
• Deadline driven and able work in a fast paced environment.
• Ability to understand captioning technologies and trends.
• BA in English, Communications, or Journalism or equivalent experience preferred.
• Must be fluent in English and one additional foreign language listed below (speak/read/write):
