Job Description
SVP, Creative Strategy and Research

The SVP, Creative Strategy and Research holds several major roles in the Consumer Activation Team and Sony Pictures Global Film Marketing organization.

First, this person co-leads the Global Creative Strategy and Research Teams and is one of the lead executives responsible for complete and total oversight of all global theatrical and home entertainment research endeavors conducted by the department. This includes film-specific work (creative testing, tracking, positioning studies, production research and screenings) as well as broader research work (custom studies, marketplace analysis, and cross-divisional endeavors).

Second, this person is responsible for using all aforementioned research to build an actionable creative/marketing strategy for our movie campaigns. The strategy determines how a film is positioned in the marketplace and is foundational work utilized by the entire marketing organization, both in Home Office and in Sony Pictures offices around the world, in the design and creation of the marketing campaign. This aspect of the role often involves heavy collaboration with Sony's creative advertising executives.

Third, this position requires significant face to face meetings and presentations with high caliber filmmakers and the top executives of the studio.

Finally, this person co-leads a team of 10+ employees and is responsible for the managerial and administrative functions of the department.

This position requires constant exposure to all senior level management, including the Chairman and President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution of the studio as well as all levels of filmmakers and executives. This position requires the ability to present findings, speak to any and all research activity, travel when needed and cross-divisional communication.

The ideal candidate will be especially comfortable with domestic research in theatrical film and home entertainment, with significant experience in domestic theatrical tracking, screenings, and intersectional research. Familiarity and comfort with the major market research agencies that work in this space and their various offerings is also a major plus. With a finely-tuned perspective on the domestic market, this person will be able to articulate domestic marketing strategy as well as global marketing strategy whenever necessary.

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of:
• Extensive Movie Theatrical Research Background
• Extensive knowledge of Research Tools and Companies
• Extensive Data-Driven Marketing Expertise
• Knowledge of Marketing Technology Tools and Systems
• Movie Media/Marketing, including an understanding of the unique and quickly changing movie marketing landscape
• Digital Reporting Tools, including top Social Listening platforms, Social Insights (Facebook, Twitter) & Google/YouTube Analytics a plus
• Purpose behind basic statistical and modeling concepts (regressions, correlations, etc.)
• Agency or studio experience a plus
• Home entertainment research experience a plus
• Extensive experience in domestic research, including intersectional research, strongly preferred

Skill In:
• Excellent written communication, oral communication, presentation, and team building skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with strong understanding of Excel (formulas, pivot tables)
