Sr Manager, Sales Analytics & Data Science
Our Team
Worldwide Television Distribution is based in Culver City and responsible for licensing features, series and formats to linear and digital platforms worldwide. The team has a very open and collaborative culture with a focus on individual development and innovation. Senior leadership of the team is highly accessible and fosters growth. The working environment is enriched by the mix of talent from sales, engineering, business development and management consulting. The LA based Sales Analytics and Insights team collaborates with teams globally and focuses on both local and international projects.

The Role

The team is looking for a leader to take analytics and data science capabilities to the next level. This role operates at the intersection of business, advanced analytics / data science and technology. It is a highly visible role with opportunity to work with senior leadership across various functions.

This role would be best suited to a technically savvy person with a business focus and intent to help improve the organization capabilities. Attention to detail would be needed to succeed in the role.

The Manager would lead analysis and be the leader in providing data driven insights, bringing together deal/licensing nuances, performance data and market dynamics. Furthermore, the Manager would use their data science and BI skills sets to create predictive models and insightful visualizations/dashboards. There would also be cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Sales Planning and IT teams.

As such, the candidate must have exceptional hands on analytical and modelling skills and must be a big picture thinker. There are three skill sets required to succeed in this position:

1. Business Intelligence/data visualization – Hands on experience in working with Excel VBA, SQL, Tableau, Alteryx (or other data manipulation and visualization tools). Good working knowledge of database architectures and systems (Snowflake, Oracle and Teradata preferred).

2. Data science – Understanding of machine learning fundamentals and methods (regressions, random forests, boosted machines, clustering etc.). Expertise and hands on experience in data munging, feature engineering, model selection and parameter tuning. Preferable to have comfort programming in both R and Python with high proficiency in at least one of the languages.

3. Business/cross-functional capabilities – Develop vision for analytics, tools and capabilities needed for future. Ability to communicate with and present to different stakeholders (sales, IT, other business functions). Translating business requirements into analytics requirements/technical roadmap.

She/he must have a passion for data and be savvy in technology. Must have prior experience diving into analytical problems, synthesizing disparate data sources and deriving meaningful insights and recommendations. The preferred candidate will have prior TV distribution experience, ideally working on international deals.

The Responsibilities

MODELING & VISUALIZATION (40%)
• Create and maintain insightful Tableau dashboards. Provide advanced visualization and dashboard customizations to business users.
• Use machine learning algorithms to uncover insights and use visualizations to communicate.
• Develop models to identify drivers of content performance and design pricing algorithms.
• Determine how/if prior performance of titles can be a predictor of performance on various media/platforms.
• Utilize data to identify territory and global trends and provide actionable insights.
• Create a Deal Optimization engine to help with title curation and recommendation engine. This will be used to help sales planners curate targeted avails lists for clients.

ANALYTICS & INSIGHTS (40%)
• Assist with complex analysis involving multiple data sets, algorithms/heuristics that capture the complexities and nuances in licensing deals and normalizing performance data.
• Identify the gaps in knowledge and insights required to formulate a solid sales strategy. Analyze content performance, buyer programming strategies, consumer viewing behaviors and market dynamics.
• Review large data sets, provide meaningful reporting, establish KPI's, effectively analyze outcomes and translate into actionable insights and recommendations.
• Utilize various data sources such as historical licensing data, streams and other 3rd party data to drive title curation analysis

INNOVATION & TOOLS (20%)
• Promote and enable data-driven decision-making across the organization by creating tools to help scale the analytics capability across the organization.
• Work with IT and Research to streamline and integrate various data sources and data flows.
• Collaborate with users across the globe to identify best practices and build globally-scalable solutions for sales planners
• Support the needs of the sales planning organization and develop an understanding of how content is licensed globally and within territories
• Synthesize findings and needs into technical requirements and work with cross functional stakeholders to ensure effective implementation.

Qualifications

EDUCATION
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, Business Management, Finance, Economics, Statistics or Computer Science is strongly preferred.
• A minimum of 5-7 years relevant experience is required.
• Experience in entertainment, media, technology or consulting is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
• Experience in using BI tools such as Tableau, Alteryx and proficiency in SQL.
• Highly proficient in Excel (i.e. VBA, pivot tables, formulas) and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience working in cross functional environments with multiple teams such as sales, marketing and IT.
• Programming experience in any language (R, Python, SQL etc) is a plus

SKILLS
• Excellent data manipulation, data cleaning and data visualization skills for summarizing large data sets to help facilitate decision making and strategic planning
• Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to tell a clear, concise, and actionable story with data
• Attention to the layout and design of how analytical information is presented
• Strong intellectual curiosity and love of problem-solving with a passion for getting involved to drive action for direct impact on business outcomes
• Curious, quick learner and detail oriented
• Self-motivated, flexible and able to operate with limited guidance and direction under changing priorities and/or tight timelines
