Job Description
SPE's Technical Accounting team is accountable for proactively consulting with and advising business units on accounting issues and policies, internal controls, and corporate governance. In addition, the team serves as a liaison to the external auditors, Tax and Internal Audit and assists in the preparation and retention of Financial Statement Information and disclosures in coordination with Sony Corporation of America (SCA), Sony Group Corporation (SGC) and the business units within SPE. As a result, this person will have exposure to all of the financial departments within the company. The team also works with Legal and Business Development on various issues such as due diligence reviews.

Supported by and reporting to the Vice President of Technical Accounting, the Manager will support business units on the implementation of new accounting standards, perform accounting research as needed on unusual or complex transactions, review management reports and submissions to SCA and SGC, assist in conducting accounting trainings, and collaborate on special projects that add value to the operations of the finance group and overall business. The Manager will need to develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of company-wide operations that will enable transitioning to key positions in other finance areas or business units when, and if, necessary.

Responsibilities:
• Serve as a technical accounting resource and advisor on complex accounting areas and transactions, including but not limited to revenue recognition, M&A, business combination, film accounting, lease accounting, etc.
• Support senior team members in accounting research, financial modelling and contract reviews.
• Prepare documentation (e.g., accounting memorandums, white papers, FAQs) to support various IFRS accounting positions taken by SPE; update SPE's accounting policies accordingly
• Collaborate with lines of business (LOB) subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand each LOB's current accounting practices and develop future state practices that align with IFRS technical accounting positions drafted in the accounting memos and accounting policies.
• Research and implement new IFRS standards, pronouncements and policies in coordination with, SGC, SCA, SPE finance group, and external auditors.
• Collaborate on the planning and execution of accounting training with the various finance groups to comply with corporate accounting policies under IFRS
• Support quarterly and annual financial statement review and audit activities
• Ensure future state processes are properly defined, documented and implemented, based on IFRS guidelines, in a timely manner, according to the project timeline and in coordination with project team and business SMEs.
• Take ownership of multiple work streams, work independently and meet the required deadlines.

Requirements:
• BS/BA – Finance/Accounting, or Business degree
• CPA (or equivalent)
• 4+ years accounting work experience in an accounting firm or related industry
• Candidates must have significant experience in accounting research
• Experience with IFRS is a plus

The anticipated base salary for this position is $95,000 - $130,000. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
