Legal Executive Director, TV Production
Please note that this role is based in the United Kingdom. In order to enable us to meet statutory and regulatory obligations of the United Kingdom immigration system you must have the appropriate immigration permission needed to work and reside in the United Kingdom.
At Sony Pictures Television (SPT) we are looking for an outstanding attorney as [Executive Director] who thrives in a collaborative team environment to join its Television Legal Department in London, England. This position will support Sony Television's production and licensing division. Working with senior business executives at SPT, both domestically and internationally, the attorney will lead negotiations with rights-holders, producers, writers and co-producing partners and handle a wide range of legal affairs pertaining to the production of television programming in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. The role will report into the EVP, Television Production, Legal.
The successful candidate will join an experienced, collaborative and encouraging legal team. In addition to working with senior business executives, the attorney will work closely with other commercial and legal experts within Sony Pictures, including production, employment, labor, marketing, music, finance, digital security, privacy, government affairs, litigation, tax, and antitrust.
What you'll do:
• Negotiating and Drafting rights agreements, talent contracts and network agreements for the development and production of television programs, primarily in the UK.
• Negotiating, Drafting and reviewing production services agreements, co-production agreements, and commissioning/license agreements.
• Assessing legal risk and advising executives with respect to various legal matters relating to production and distribution.
• Advising chain of title and rights analysis in connection with television production.
• Supervising outside counsel on production legal matters pertaining UK productions.
• Working with other members of the legal department
What you have:
• Typically 7+ years post qualified of relevant production experience with a law firm, studio or production company
• Excellent negotiating and drafting skills
• Strong understanding of television development and production legal and business matters
• Experience working with broadcasters and understanding of related rules and regulations.
• Ability to balance working independently while being a collaborative team player
• Assertive, detail-oriented, proactive and able to accommodate tight deadlines
• Experience, ability and desire to provide a high level of client service, including excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with creative and corporate team members
