Sony Pictures Imageworks is seeking a Software Engineer - Real-time Developer!
The Real-time Developer is responsible for the implementation and development of Sony Pictures Animation's previs pipeline using both Maya and Unreal. They report to the Executive Director of Technology and collaborate with the Executive in charge of Pre Production, and the Lead Real-time Developer in developing and maintaining a new real time pipeline for SPA pre production. Will be responsible for supporting and contributing to workflows for artists as part of early pre production through previs for animated feature projects. Facilitate the building and maintaining of libraries of assets, materials, textures and motion files for use by the pre production teams including production designers and art directors. They are a part of the team developing and maintaining data interchange between SPA, SPI and vendor studios for both internal and external productions.
Responsibilities:
• Be part of a software development team working on a new previs pipeline
• Code tools for different DCC's to help artists and supervisors alike
• Develop and support tools for motion capture and virtual camera workflows
• Work closely with all departments on pipeline improvements and developments
• Interface and work with editorial and visual development artists on tools
• Facilitate and advise on data I/O
• Support the art team with asset compatibility between DCC's
• Support and oversee the technical implementation of assets
• Support Rendering efforts, including debugging render issues
• Train and support supervisors/artists with use of this pipeline and it's tools
• QA tools being developed internally
Essential Skills:
• Strong & proven communication and problem solving skills
• Experience working with Maya or other DCC software
• Experience working in a software development team
• Excellent Python skills
• Experience creating tools and scripts for Maya and Unreal
• Strong understanding of Unreal Engines Blueprint system
• C++ coding experience a plus
• Experience with Perforce and/or other source control software
• A solid knowledge of Previs and Animation production and its iteration process
• A desire to learn from others and to take on increasingly challenging work
• A vivid imagination

The anticipated base salary for this position is $94,500/year to $125,199/ year. This role may also qualify for incentives and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
