Executive Director, Local Production (South Korea)

Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) is a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment Inc., a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Sony Corporation. SPE's global operations encompass motion picture production, acquisition and distribution; television production, acquisition and distribution; television networks; digital content creation and distribution; operation of studio facilities; and development of new entertainment products, services and technologies.

This role is responsible for sourcing and managing the development and production pipeline for Sony Pictures International Production's (SPIP) South Korea branch. This position will develop and cultivate relationships with industry contacts (i.e. writers, representation, producers, directors, etc.) in order to source ideas to be developed into scripts for film and television productions. This role will also be a liaison with SPIP's key executives in Los Angeles to formulate business plan for the territory, devise the business arrangements with key talent for productions, and work with the local distribution teams to launch the produced titles.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee script development and production, including providing notes on pitches, outlines, scripts, and various cuts of titles during production.
• Find and pitch new material to senior management with a creative point of view with recommendations on next steps.
• Negotiate business terms for development, production, and distribution deals under supervision of key executives in the Los Angeles office.
• Work with local SPE sales teams to collect projections to evaluate individual titles for investment.
• Supervise the title through all stages of production (pre, physical, and post).
• Provide creative input in the post-production process
• Draw upon existing relationships and cultivate new relationships to source new film and television projects for the local Korea market.
• Provide talent relations when needed for marketing and distribution purposes.
• Identifies and pursues potential new business opportunities, including understanding evolving business models and co-production arrangements
• Strategize and oversee the local subsidy application process to ensure the maximum benefit for the studio.

Required Skills:
• Typically 10+ years of experience working in Local Production required
• Previous experience overseeing the development and production of local motion picture and television titles for major studio, production company, or distributor
• Ability to manage script and film development
• Have an understanding of local business customs and practices including key terms in development, production, and distribution agreements
• Have knowledge on the production needs and requirements for South Korea
• Excellent written & oral communication skills
• Must be detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize, ensuring all assignments are completed in an accurate and timely manner
• Must be flexible – an ability to work in an environment where needs and priorities are subject to much revision
