Director, Script Clearance

The Director of Script Clearance will assist the Vice President of Script Clearance with the day-to-day running of the Script Clearance Department. The Department is responsible for protecting the company from litigation and claims of libel, slander, defamation of character, invasion of privacy, unfair competition, trademark infringement and dilution, product disparagement, unauthorized usage of corporate professional and product names, and copyright.

Responsibilities:
• Continue with all the responsibilities of a clearance Analyst, including reading and breaking down and assessing scripts; assessing research; liaising with productions; generating accurate tracking and reporting; assessing all items under clearance review; reviewing dailies and cuts of a/v works and marketing materials.
• Supervising the Animation Clearance Specialist in all aspects of their day-to-day job, including ensuring quality of script breakdowns, research, and tracking/reporting; reviewing and training Animation Clearance Specialist to review and properly analyze all items requiring clearance review; elevating issues to the VP of Script Clearance and IP attorneys as appropriate.
• Assist the VP of Script Clearance with the supervision of the Script Clearance Analysts on clearance issues related to motion pictures, TV shows and new media from pre-production through post-production. developing and maintain strategies to identify and prevent legal claims.
• Assist the VP of Script Clearance with mentoring and developing the Script Clearance Analysts on script clearance issues to ensure their continued growth while also identifying areas to improve department performance.

Requirements:
• 10+ years of experience as a full-service Clearance Analyst, with knowledge of SPE's systems, research skills and techniques, and understanding the full span of legal issues that arise on projects, with particular understanding of challenges in the animation space.
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Excellent judgement
• Works well training and mentoring junior employees
• Thorough understanding of production and related clearance issues and animation production techniques

The anticipated base salary for this position is $115,500-$154,500. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
