Animation Clearance Research Specialist
The Animation Clearance Specialist will be responsible for performing work on all animation projects emanating from SPA to support the Netflix TV deal. The employee will support the Script Clearance Department on additional overflow projects if time allows. Responsibilities include breaking down and tracking all scripts' generating and maintaining script clearance reports; researching all necessary elements; securing clearances where appropriate; and working with their manager to properly analyze and assess all items.
Core Responsibilities
Script Breakdown
• Responsible for reviewing all scripts and identifying all items for research and assessment, including names, quotes, references, products, specified materials, locations, etc.
• Review and track all script revisions for same
Script Clearance Report via SCRY
• Enter all breakdown items into SCRY report (tailored for SPA)
• Update SCRY report in real-time to apprise production of research status and assessment
• Continue to build SCRY report via SCOR requests
Research -- Responsible for all research arising from SPA projects, including:
• Business and Character names
• Contact info for third-party permissions
• Design comparisons – including animation characters/accessories/vehicles/sets
• Historical research, including determinations as to whether any item is protected by copyright or trademark
• Research will involve use of multiple databases, including Thomson Reuters CLEAR, US PTO database TESS, WIPO, Coresearch, Westlaw, Sagis, Hoovers, IMDB Pro
Clearance Analysis/Assessment
• Under the supervision and review of Script Clearance Department designee, analyze, assess, and resolve all SCRY/SCOR items, including determining whether or not third-party permissions are required, whether changes/edits are required of Production, and whether the item is assessed as ''permissible'' or ''not clear''
• Obtain third-party permissions where required
• Elevate sensitive issues to Department head
Job Requirements
• 3 or more years of experience working at a clearance service provider performing script breakdowns and research; experience analyzing items for review a plus
• BA preferred; must have experience researching across multiple databases
