Software Engineering Specialist, San Mateo or San Diego

We are looking for a software engineer (preferably full-stack) with a keen interest in Online gaming, social media and Online Safety; specifically with a passion for creating systems that help safeguard online communities and contribute to maximum user-delight and platform engagement. The role will be a part of the global Online Safety team, developing new moderator tooling capabilities and reacting to any usability or performance issues to ensure continual and effective usability for global operational teams.

This position will also work and liaise very closely with dedicated tooling and product teams and may also participate in longer-term development projects and tooling upgrades. Good communication skills and an organized and structured way of working are essential, as well as a passion for making connections with others and building strong working relationships with the Safety team and wider partners

Qualifications:

Essential
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge
• Experience with version control solutions, particularly the github workflow.
• Experience with at least one modern web application framework such as Angular/Ember.js/React
• Experience with Java and SQL
• Great communication skills with an ability to connect with many different teams of diverse experiences
• Interest or experience in Customer Support, Community Moderation and/or related field experience
• Analytically minded with ability to analyze data to detect trends and report on insights - understand team critical metrics and how software performance impacts or supports them
• Ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change across organizational boundaries
• An understanding or interest in online safety and abuse matters
• Ability to research, analyze and solve complex problems
• Positive outlook; willing to challenge the status quo
• Works independently under minimal direction with strong work ethic
• Able to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Desirable
• Experience with testing frameworks
• Experience writing command-line scripts or similar languages
• Knowledge of project management processes and tools, especially AGILE methodologies
• Ability to work well independently or within a team, and adapt to dynamics associated with emerging / maturing products and services
• Ability to work remotely (from home) or in an office environment that is potentially not located with reporting managers (strong self-motivation and independence)
• The ability to build compelling documentation and/or slide decks and present a narrative that will influence others
• Knowledge of online gaming and the ability to research current industry trends
• Knowledge/experience of JIRA, Wrike or other project management systems, BI/analytics platforms (eg Qlik, Tableau, Adobe Analytics etc)
• A belief in code quality
