Sr. Software Development Manager - News Platform

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced technical leader to work in a growing tech organization-Sinclair Digital where we connect people with content everywhere. We create world-class media solutions that serve our 66 million monthly active users with relevant and compelling news content. Our products power 170 news and entertainment sites, 70 news apps, and more, all with a purpose-to serve our local communities and nationwide audience with thought-provoking content.

As a Sr. Software Development Manager, you will lead a team of engineers to develop and deliver news platform capabilities that meet business requirements and customer needs. You will be responsible for managing the entire development lifecycle, from design, development, testing and deployment, and ensuring that the team delivers on time. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineering teams.

THE TEAM:

Platform team supports web-based CMS system that allows our content producers to curate various types of content and provides backend APIs that drive the web sites and mobile apss to effectively deliver to a wide range of audiences for our news products. We are working on a suite of services using a pluggable event based microservice architecture using Kafka, Redis, Cloud Search, MySQL, Java, Node.js and Video streaming services.

Position location will be Seattle, WA

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Lead a technology team that designs, develops and maintains services for platform to support our products
• Support team members by providing mentorship and career guidance
• Manage stakeholder relationships and help execute on quarterly planning increments and commitments on behalf of the team
• Influence the architectural design and implementation of features that fully meet specifications whilst driving quality and embracing and extending existing policies, practices and design patterns
• Increase team efficiency by removing roadblocks and providing a healthy culture for development
• Communicate and coordinate effectively across impacted teams and stakeholders, working with customer support, engineering and operational teams to ensure systems are intuitive, secure, scalable, reliable, and performant

WHAT TO BRING:
• 10+ years of software development experience
• 3+ years experience managing a high performing development team
• 5+ years development experience in Java or JavaScript/Node
• 2+ year experience with a modern native-cloud infrastructure and deploying services to them (AWS/Google/Azure)
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to understand, explain and debug both development and architecture solutions
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Strong knowledge and experience with using web services, REST, and SQL

NICE-TO-HAVES:
• Experience working on highly scalable and reliable server-side web services 
• 1+ year experience in any: NoSQL, Node.js, JavaScript, Python, GitLab, and CICD
• 1+ year experience in any: AWS EC2, Kubernetes, Cloud Search, Kafka, and Redis
• Experience working on microservices
• Experience with writing both Unit and Automated tests

The base salary compensation range for this role is $159,000 to $220,000. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, quarterly and annual incentive plan bonuses, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, 15 paid vacation days, 2 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, 40 hours of paid sick leave, parental leave, and employee stock purchase plan.
