Sinclair, Inc. is seeking a full-time highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Product Owner to join the Enterprise Data & Insights (ED&I) Department! The primary mission of the Enterprise Data & Insights team is to empower and enable every Sinclair stakeholder with the trusted, accessible data needed and desired to operate a modern, world-class media company by connecting, democratizing, and managing data to enable transformative insights and data-led decision making.
Within the ED&I Department, this role will report into the Master Data Management (MDM) and Architecture Team working under the direction of the Sr Director of Master Data Management and Architecture. The Data Product Owner's primary responsibility is to enable major data initiatives through understanding and analysis of business needs that enable operational MDM data products to be impactful and highly adopted by business users. This individual will create a variety of artifacts and documentation to facilitate these efforts from planning through to release and user training. The MDM and Architecture Team requires a strong understanding of systems and data structures.
We are looking for a Data Product Owner with excellent technical writing, communication, and analysis skills in addition to a strong understanding of and experience with databases, systems design, data models, reporting, and data quality. Areas of focus will include analysis of existing and future business processes and connected systems to ensure our consumers have high quality and trusted data that is well understood and governed throughout the enterprise. In support of these efforts, stakeholder communication and document creation will be regular responsibilities. In the future, this person will also contribute to cataloging and metadata management projects as they materialize.
Responsibilities include:
Product Ownership & Strategy
• Contribute and manage the vision, roadmap, and backlog for the Customer Data Management product
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs, data requirements, and translate them into clear product features and user stories.
• Prioritize work based on business value, technical feasibility, and compliance requirements.
Stakeholder Management and Value Tracking
• Act as the voice of the customer for data users across the business (sales, billing, operations, etc.), proactively lead and manage the overall communication with all of the stakeholders and act as the ''face'' of the CDM Team to our customers
• Collaborate with stakeholders to create a value matrix of all of the projects we work on so that we have a good grasp of the ROI; communicate and track the value matrix on an ongoing basis.
• Facilitate regular feedback loops with stakeholders to validate product direction and gather enhancement ideas.
Delivery & Execution
• Partner with data engineering and analytics teams to ensure timely, high-quality delivery of data products.
• Gather, analyze, and document requirements for data initiatives from a variety of sources and identify missing elements and dependencies
• Develop process maps that serve as accurate representations of business processes
• Participate in creation of testing plans and acceptance criteria based on requirements for quality assurance and user acceptance testing.
• Manage the product backlog, sprint planning, and day-to-day execution in Agile/Scrum frameworks, including moderating the regular standups with the MDM Team
• Ensure data products meet quality, governance, and compliance standards.
• Occasionally analyze datasets to determine structures, patterns, and inconsistencies
Continuous Improvement
• Analyze product usage and performance to drive enhancements.
• Expand and improve the data organization's documentation practices and organization
• Foster a culture of data literacy and adoption across the organization.
The preferred candidate will have:
• A bachelor's degree in business, management information systems, computer science or related field
• 2-5 years of professional experience preferred
• Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills for use in developing detailed business requirements and presenting solutions to other team members
• Proficiency with SQL, Excel, reporting applications, and an understanding of data technologies and common tooling
• Familiarity with a variety of Project Management processes and procedures including Waterfall and at least one Agile methodology
• Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.)
• Experience utilizing process mapping techniques
• Strong organizational skills
• Previous exposure to software development environments
• Experience with master data management, data governance, and data quality management is a plus
• Understanding of broadcast/cable, CTV/OTT and digital media landscape a plus
The base salary compensation range for this role is $105,600 to $133,600. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, 15 paid vacation days, 2 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, 40 hours of paid sick leave, parental leave, and employee stock purchase plan.
