7 News in Washington, DC has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Consumer Investigative Reporter to join our Seven On Your Side team. We're all about advocacy journalism and consumer investigations that affect change and make a difference for our viewers. We are looking for a consumer investigator who can dig, research and turn the big consumer story of the day as well as longer-term consumer investigations in an original, dynamic, and compelling manner both on-air and online. We're interested in a reporter with a proven track record of impactful consumer reporting, deep knowledge of consumer issues and established consumer contacts so we can stay ahead of the curve. Our Consumer Investigator will help lead our data driven journalism efforts, in other words you should love sorting through data and organizing the data to find the storylines. You must have a proven track record on digital media and understand how to engage with the audience on all platforms. You will be part of a large Seven On Your Side investigative and consumer unit, and a willingness to collaborate and be a team player is essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and maintain contacts and sources to enterprise story ideas
• Identify and pitch original consumer stories
• Consumer news can be dry so you must be able to produce your stories in a visually
• Be flexible and knowledgeable, so 7 ON YOUR SIDE can quickly react to breaking consumer stories of the day to provide deeper context and information to our viewers
• Maintain an active social media presence to build your brand and solicit original story ideas
• Knowledge of the legal land mines pertaining to investigations and how to avoid them
• A love of and passion for what you do as an investigator
• Embrace data driven journalism and how to visually tell those stories
• Other 7 ON YOUR SIDE reporting duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of 8 years of experience working as a consumer investigator and/or general assignment reporter
• Proven track record of advocacy journalism
• Proven track record of consumer reporting
• Experience working with hidden camera
