DESCRIPTION:
This is a very unique opportunity as the Publishing Assistant will work in both the editorial and marketing departments within Scribner Books to support both a VP Executive Editor and the Senior Marketing Director. This role will provide an opportunity to learn extensive editorial and marketing skills.
On the editorial side the assistant will work on a wide range of titles-big idea books, history, politics, memoir, cultural critiques, popular psychology, sports, business, pop science, and, very selectively, commercial fiction. Core responsibilities include reading and reporting on submissions; helping supervisor make acquisitions (which involves finding comparison titles and drafting P&Ls); targeting potential blurbers through data mining; drafting and editing tip sheets; helping with editing; and managing the production process for all titles.
On the marketing side the assistant will provide administrative support to the marketing department and assist with the creation and execution of marketing campaigns. Responsibilities include: Contributing to Scribner's social media outreach (post preparation and scheduling, responding to readers, and researching social media influencers); Conceptualizing and executing outreach to booksellers, librarians, bloggers, book clubs, influencers and other third parties; Executing marketing plans for select paperback reprints (coordinating with the AdPromo department on advertising plans and creative); Handling administrative tasks such as mailings, giveaway fulfillment, and invoice processing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate is a very good writer, able to juggle multiple tasks under deadline pressure. Being highly meticulous when it comes to details is an absolute MUST.
