DESCRIPTION:
The Backlist Copy Coordinator will be responsible for reviewing/updating copy for backlist titles on a rolling basis. This includes updating copy (adding headlines, adjusting keywords and metadata) to include newsworthy awards or media tie-in information. Interest in and basic understanding of metadata, SEO, and online discoverability, and the ability to review, research, and suggest search keywords is required. The person would also contribute to departmental proofreading and other special projects that include correcting online copy, participating in ongoing scaled backlist clean-up initiatives, troubleshooting feed problems, and writing email and promotional copy. Attention to detail, being mindful of deadlines, and excellent organizational skills required.
Core Responsibilities:
• Reviewing/updating copy for approximately 75 titles per week (300 to 450 titles per month)
• Updating keywords/BISACs
• Ensuring consistency across all editions and confirming proper feed
• Proofreading of Ad/Promo materials (e-newsletters, print/online ads, promotional items) on a rolling basis
QUALIFICATIONS:
Mandatory
• College graduate
• Computer literate (MAC a plus)
• Well organized and extremely detail-oriented
• Excellent writing, grammar, and communication skills, as well as creativity and sound judgement when making decisions
• Ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
Preferred
• 2 years publishing/copy-related experience
• Knowledge of proofreading marks
• Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and the ability to work with a Style Guide
• Knowledge of SEO and ability to research, identify, and incorporate search keywords a plus
