Job Description
WSYM's senior reporter will be the station's go-to journalist for covering the stories that lead newscasts.

From news at the State Capitol, Michigan State University, or any one of our neighborhoods, this person

will turn both real-time and hard-enterprise stories that will put you front and center in our newscasts.

You'll often work in tandem with a photographer or provide team coverage with reporters to generate

content that drives or supports the big story of the day. That content has an opportunity to air at

Scripps' sister stations in Detroit and Grand Rapids.

This person will also be expected to deliver live breaking news coverage, and consistently field-anchor
our evening shows. This person's field anchoring will be the connective tissue in our endeavor to provide

a tour of Mid-Michigan neighborhoods in our newscasts.

You will provide the station with top level reporting for multiplatform distribution. Provide guidance to new reporters at the location.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
• Generate ideas for stories for multiple platforms.
• Report from the field as the lead journalist on nightly newscasts.
• Prepare a factual story to impart the information to the public.
• Research stories through personal contacts, the internet and other sources deciding the best angle and approach for the story.
• Collaborate effectively with News, Promotion, Production and Engineering on daily broadcast, special projects and online coverage.
• Participate in community events.
• Build a network of informational sources to provide exclusive stories for the Scripps brand.
• Meet all production deadlines.
• Periodically required to drive personal or company vehicle to cover various assignments.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
• BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
• Generally, 5+ years of experience in related field preferred

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

• Exceptional on-air personality
• Multitask multiple stories
• Advance ability in critical thinking
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits.
