Job Description
The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a Journalism Program Manager to direct, coordinate, and support various journalism programs for the Scripps Howard Fund. This role will work closely with the Director of Journalism Strategies to cultivate relationships and administer programs using the SHF Strategic Plan as guidance.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Leadership and Strategic Initiatives:
• Maintain a high level of expertise regarding the journalism industry, journalism education and journalism funding.
• Cultivate a diverse network of relationships with partners and thought leaders across the media landscape, including leaders in the field of journalism, journalism funding and journalism education.
• Provide research, reports, analysis, insights and recommendations to Foundation leadership regarding trends, changes and opportunities in journalism funding, education, training, etc.
• Oversee Scripps Howard Awards competition, including program budget, continuously seeking ways to improve the competition and elevate the standing of the awards.
• Manage Scripps Howard Fund internship program, including but not limited to selecting partner newsrooms and universities, supporting partners, marketing internship job postings, designing training, compiling reports and managing the intern support fund.
• Represent the SHF at conferences, on boards, in trade associations and organizations.
Grant Making:
• Help manage the grant making process and serve as the key lead contact and relationship manager with one-year grant recipients.
• Provide written outcomes analysis for Foundation leadership to determine effectiveness of programs and overall grant portfolio. Recommend changes, additions and programs to eliminate.
• Maintain relationships with selected grantees. Identify and follow up on issues and opportunities, with special attention to schools and projects bearing the Scripps and Howard names.
Special Projects:
• Oversee Scripps Howard Awards competition, including program budget, continuously seeking ways to improve the competition and elevate the standing of the awards.
• Build and maintain alumni network of past interns, fellows and other participants of Scripps Howard Fund programs to engage and connect.
Other:
• Gather, generate, and share with marketing and fundraising staff stories, outcomes, photos and other materials to publicize Journalism Fund's impact.
• Assist with planning and materials for Board meetings.
• Represent the SHF at conferences, on boards, in trade associations and organizations.
• Other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
• Bachelor's Degree preferred
• 5+ years of relevant experience preferred
